They should have left the communication to Walter Ulbricht:

Thank you for posting this the 1000th time and showing that neither the mastermind behind this nor you have understood the meaning of Ulbricht's quote.

Time will fly by and sooner than you all think, October 2013 will arrive we will all have this to enjoy!

Question then is how soon the airport operators will be able to secure additonal financing to fund the first satellite building (as an extension will soon be necessary). This will prove a real challenge given its current financial difficulties.

Apparently a 3-star hotel provider will be announced towards the end of the year to build another hotel. This is in addition to the already finished/built 4-star superior hotel in the Airport City.

Good news!

Sep traffic figures for the two current airports (TXL / SXF) are up 5.9% compared to last year!

Expect over 25m PAX for the whole of 2012!

Yes, money is a bit of a problem (as always), due to an increase in costs of about EUR 1bn!

Main reasons are increased noise reduction measures for home owners and tenants of houses under the flight path (many of them need to be compensated), trying to expand the terminal to account for the strong traffic growth to and from Berlin, as well as cost blow outs and delays as a result of technical difficulties with the fire safety system.

That is the only relevant reason for the delay.

well, that's the "official" one...
but there are rumours about other problems, such as: terminal too small, insufficient number of ckeck-in counter, small landslips which lead to problems with the rwy and the tower...

Rumours and conspiracy theories are natural byproducts of a mega project like this.

Plus: Germany is not China. Every aspect of the future BER functions are published and reported.

The construction works at the BER take longer because the highly complex fire protection is not installed in time.

The construction works at BER take longer because there were major management mistakes! Too many adjustments during the projects were made, which led to such a huge delay!

And by the way, now Air Berlin is going to sue the Airport Company!

Nope.

The only major mismanagement was to acknowledge the difficulties of the site to late.

The planning teams underestimated the technological challenges, while the management was to optimistic to overcome the problems.

Basically nothing new for a major project like this.

Anyway, the current Berlin airports are running successful and growing faster then any other major German or Western European airport.

That's not the only problem. Amman told the media, that too many adjustments were one of the reasons that caused all those problems!

This is my favourite airport so far.. I like how it's so simple, symmetrical, minimalistic, and pragmatically designed!!!

I must agree, I love the symmetry in this projects, other airports look like a 5 year old pointed on some map and they build terminals in totally random, unstrategic areas.

Posted today, on Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg YouTube channel.

Such a pity it's not full of traveler's chatter yet...
