This was an idiotic idea because smoke naturally spreads vertically, to the top.
This may be the reason why german engineering has problems actually. As I´m an engineer we have been told, that the simple solution is always the best. Do nothing complicated as it is not necessary. Some dumb architects have dull ideas and you will find an expert telling that there is no problem to do this. I give you another example of stupid engineering:

They studied smoke-emission from the train-platform into the ticket-hall if a train catches fire. Normally you study this case with a numeric simulation and that´s it. But wait, we are in Germany... we take into account that there are five tracks in the station and we say that on every track one train arrives into the station at the same time and one train is burning. Now you say this is not realistic, ok, but that´s what they did. Surprise surprise... the system couldnt cope with this situation. I know this agency, doing the smoke-simulation, personally and believe me: As long as I´m suitable for fire-protection in my company I will do everything, that they don´t put their feet into my business spreading their stuoid ideas. I know other well working companies which told me, that they really not wanted to work for BER. It´s simply exaggerated in many ways.

What a joke. More realistically: 2019 - never.

Didn't expect doors to be such High-Tech products. Reminds me on German immigrant policy where politicians also weren't able to close doors

It's the Spot The Difference game.

Beyond taller trees and bushes, find any improvement or work in progress.

are these pictures new?

If so, then it's to no surprise how it is so neat. Almost nobody who ever could contaminate this place!

I may be mistaken but appears at least the picture of the check-in counters is from June 2016

Stephen Hawking now says humanity has only about 100 years to escape Earth

So why still trying to complete?

This airport is actually very nice. It gave me the 1940s exterior feel yet very modern, the design is quite simple yet unique.

It gives an XX century feeling because It has an old design (it was too traditional at the beginning and it's even getting old)

This is a modern design:

The construction works started in December 2014 and will be completed in 2019

Maybe this would be an appropriate time to repost the first post in this thread, given that we are closing in on the revised opening time of summer 2017:

This will be followed in 2011 by the closure of Tegel Airport and the opening of BBI. The new terminal, which will be located between the two parallel take-off and landing runways, will accommodate 30 milion passengers annually in the initial configuration.
