Both government and Dimetronic made some mistakes, construction started again few months ago, so it should be ready in two years.

Siemens to open Turkish tram factory
22 Oct 2015

TURKEY: Siemens announced on October 20 that it is to build a tram factory in Gebze near Istanbul at a cost of €30m.

According to Siemens, ‘by localising manufacturing and the supply chain in Turkey, the company expects even better chances for winning tenders as well as substantial cost advantages for international orders’.

The company told Railway Gazette International that it would like to use the ‘local know-how and expertise’ of Turkish suppliers, but it is not seeking a partner in the construction of the factory. It had previously worked with Bursa-based manufacturer Durmazlar on the Silkworm tram, now in service in Bursa, for which Siemens provided traction equipment

Woow, so Izmir is another city which is reintroducing tram after almost 5 decades. That's good, better late than never.

Izmit is another town which will open a tram network.

When will be the commercial operation will be started for those two systems?

Diyarbakır tram project approved
06 Jan 2017

TURKEY: Prime minister Binali Yıldırım has approved the construction of a tram line in Diyarbakır. The city in eastern Turkey has 930 000 inhabitants, with more than 1·5 million in the metropolitan area, but no tram lines.

The planned route would link Dağkapı on the edge of the historic city centre with Eğitim ve Araştırma Hospital in the northwest, serving 18 stops on a 14 km alignment. Construction would include the closure to motor traffic of Ekinciciler Caddesi. It is envisaged that 30 trams would be required to operate the service, with an additional three to be purchased as a reserve
