approaching People's square

the brown 1930s building in the middle (Park Hotel) used to be Asia's highest skyscraper until 1983 (88 meters high)

People square is somehow the city center of Shanghai

not far away from touristy Nanjing Dong Lu and the bund with its view onb Pudong skyline

many skyscrapers popped up during the last 20 years around the square

Nanjing Dong Lu, East Nanjing Street or even more precise, East South Capital Street marks the intersection between West Nanjing street/people square and the bund

a world famous and touristy place with its characteristics billboards

i prefer the side street still untouched by all this development albeit locaterd in the very city center

another one of my favourite spots: the 3 blocks between the Bund and Najing Dong Lu pedestrian walkway

looking towars Orienbtal Pearl Tower

finally, a "German" facade

Weird to see all these overhead power lines in dense urban environment. Don't they want to put them underground? Looks nasty.

Beside complaining, very interesting photos.

That's an interesting thread. It's not the most flattering portrayal of Shanghai I've seen on these forums, but it's certainly the most ruthlessly honest. To be fair there are some photos of Shanghai's glossy side to balance all the grit and scruffiness.

I thought it was pretty flattering. It showed that Shanghai has a type of elegant classiness to it surpassed only by Hong Kong. For the most part these pictures make Shanghai look like a developed world city.

I agree. Don't know what's the problem. Most of my pictures show a modern, thriving city. People must accept that Shanghai isn't the Bund or Pudong skyline.
