So Oslo Airport Gardermoen will have a third runway before Heathrow (or for that matter Arlanda)?

And they will surely need it when long distance traffic abandon Stockholm and Gothenburg for Oslo and Helsinki thanks to the moronic politicians taxing the airline industry away from Sweden.

The Norwegians are laughing all the way to the bank thanks to the clueless idiots in the Swedish government. They think the are going to save the world by taxing air traffic in and out of Sweden

Well the Norwegians taxed passengers enough to close Rygge down. So it's not only the swedes who dislike airports and air transport.

The tax was just a convenient excuse to shut down Rygge. And yes, the Norwegian tax is very similar to the Swedish proposal.

Which actually is odd, as the Norwegian tax is a result of politicking, and not optimal as an environmental tax. At a minimum it should be a seat tax rather than a passenger tax. The environmental damage from an empty seat is essentially the same as for a filled one.

The 80 SEK tax won't move passengers from Swedish to neighbouring airports, though the top bracket (430 SEK) just about might, and thus is risky, especially if you want to attract long-distance links. Keep in mind that a return ticket with Arlanda Express is 540 SEK. Other airports and modes of transportation are cheaper, but even there the tax is less than airlines charge for passengers to pick their seat.

Stockholm is much more sensitive than Oslo when it comes to cost of travel. Even a modest increase will shift traffic away from Sweden to Norway and Finland. Also both Oslo and Helsinki are vastly superior airports to travel through compared to Stockholm.
