These are the cities in South America with subway systems. Some of them are on large expansion and others are to be done by the end of 2009. Hope you enjoy them and make your comments.

Actually most of the Brazilian subway systems posted here are not fully operational or as big as the maps show. Most of the maps include expansion projects as if already being concluded and part of the whole system.

the map of the Metro de Santiago,Chile is too old, actually Lines 4&4A has been built 3 years ago, same as expansion to the north of the Line2.

This is actually how Santiago's underground looks today.
![]() The dotted lines are being built and to be inaugurated during 2009-2010. "El Sol" Station will be inaugurated in 2011. Further extensions will be announced later on this year. |

As it was mentioned on the thread descriptions, some of these systems are on expansion and it would be very very worthy if members updated these maps. Constantly, I want to post the latest news about the system in my city, which is Brasilia and hope everybody would contribute the same.
The most accurate news about Brasilia metro is that the lightrail lines are going to start to be built next April as it has already been notified on the Metro company website. See you then!!!

![]() IMO this is the worst metro map in the world. It's looks so difficult to understand, and amateurish. At first the Metro system appears to be quite extensive, until you realise that half the lines shown are just plans for the future. They should really redesign the map and make it easier to understand.

Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro's systems are far too small for the populations they serve.

In Santiago, power supply is by third rail. But when these tests were done, as power supply is just by catenary, they had installed pantographs over trains' top. One question about Santiago metro: are there trainsets of 3 and 6 cars running on line 4? Last edited by mqts; March 5th, 2009 at 04:44 AM. |
