I was there too yesterday

()_T were you at Discovery Green when they had all of the latin dancers in the park? I was there playing football with my sons yesterday. The tower is moving along nicely and they are starting floor 19 now. I noticed the glass is moving around to the north side of the tower. Unfortunately the glass reflects the ugly convention center.

Nope. No latin dancers, there was not as much people as I thought it would be the last time I was at Discovery Green. I don't think i'll be in that area anytime soon for now. I like the convention center imo and the glass on the tower is better than I expected. Another tower (embassy suites) is suppose to start construction sometime this month, near the park

Development

I am glad that Houston has finally started such great developments such as the Discovery Green area. I am just worried about the parking issues that all of this new development might bring to the area. Right now on most days there is parking right across from the Discovery Tower, but that will likely change when the tower opens.

Is Houston Trying to compete with Dallas with a lit up sky line at night?

Houston will lose that contest

As of April 2008 most buildings in downtown Houston went dark to save energy. There are only a handful of buildings that still keep their decorative lights on at night. Hurricane Ike also broke most of the neon lights on the Wells Fargo tower and they have not fixed those either. Some of the buildings decorate for Christmas time. I think downtown looks too dark at night now and there are better ways for the buildings to save energy.

do you know when will they light up downtown again? I notice that when the Reliant Energy building lights weren't on for a while

Here is more info

Reply to JesseAnleu here is a link that has more info on the lights out in downtown Houston. http://www.houston.org/lights-out-houston/ . I think the Reliant tower has some problems with the lighting system because right after the hurricane there was a huge section that was off in the middle of the building. I hope the Hess Tower and Main Place will maintain their lighting and buck the trend of the downtown towers shutting off their lights. Accolrding to the renderings both of the above towers they will be lit up at night. I miss the 90's when almost every tower was lit up at night.

that modern, beautiful building, but for a big city, the height is not as much as their beauty.

()_T your pictures always come out so well. What kind of camera do you use to get such clarity? I passed by this tower last night and I did not see many changes to the height over the past week. The windows are moving along and the parking lot is rising fast.

Thanks John. I use a Kodak Zi6 and a GE H1200, not the best but they're good enough for me. I also use a litte HDR as well. Maybe the tower has'nt changed in height due to the heavy rain that passed by earlier this week. Im dissapointed that they use that parking lot to build the garage for this tower.

Disappointed as well.

They should have put a connecting tower on the next door site of a similar build. I guess they just want to maximize their revenue from the nearby park, convention center, and Minute Maid park.
