It isn't something new that countries support other countries with money. All countries do it.

Because as I said before, Iran is full of corruption, lacks management and organisation

Ofc nobody wants them, the other airlines can buy or lease new whereas Iranian airlines can't. That doesn't make the aircraft bad...
it's a great deal for Mahan Air

Many countries are. But as I mentioned before, some things just come with time. You can't predict or change it now, it just automatically comes.

They are not fuel effecient! That's why no one wants them on the current market. Twinjets like the A350, B787 and 777s are replacing them

Yes, but Iran can't buy that so A346 is great for now

That I agree on, maybe it could get some older 777s as well

True, but that money to Syria is peanuts next to what will be earned. And besides, sutations change, this war won't go on forever. That being said, I expect Gaza to be dropped like a hot potato in the not too distant future. Perhaps as part of the deal. Besides, they're takfiris. As much as it pains me to see injustice, it couldn't happen to a bunch of 'nicer' people.

Airline wise you're right. Just a boom alone isn't sufficient. But it makes possible to build huge airports and buy fleets. And, as the Iranian people want some more freedoms here and there, I think a progressive airline is a good place to start. Stop enforcing sharia on their flights, and perhaps on the airport itself. Slowly but steadily, things need to change. No shocks.

The a346 is a lottttt more efficiency than even the 747-400. Iran only has 747-200s and 300s. Those are GIGANTIC gas guzzlers next to the 346. Better know that, we're talking double digit efficiency gains here. Pretty soon modern large twinjets will come on line. Right now, Iran needs to purchase every single a340 that becomes available, for all the airlines (Iran Air, Mahan and whatever). Use them a few years and turn them into beer cans.

Anyway, does anybody know what the rest of the airplanes is? There is lots of talk about '15' new airplanes since February. So far this latest deal was 9 jets: 7x 346 1x 343 and 1x 321. What's the other 7?

And 2: is anybody in the know on any further deals being finalized?

It would be interesting if Iran cooperated with Russia and China on their new widebody venture.

That won't even have a first flight before 2030. Might be awesome to produce some parts? Some wing parts or fuselage parts!

Talking about that, what possibilities do you guys see of Iranian aerospace companies working as subcontractors for Airbus? Small parts like mentioned above, parts of the fuselage and wings. Airbus gives out packages for countries who order many planes.

If Iran joined forces with Antonov or had a big say in Russian new builds, they could have the advantage of tailoring an aircraft to their exact needs.

The A340s will be a major step forward for the Iranian people and the airlines that have the responsibility of flying them from A to B.
Hopefully Iran will now have the time and facilities to develop the infrastructure so they can expand and attract new customers.

If they can manage to keep 30+ year old jumbo jets flying to all corners of the earth, 12 year old Airbuses should be a walk in the park.

Fars Co is a maintenance company right? Checks etc? Well, as long as the jobs are Iranian, that's great. Haha, so globalization is finally getting even Iran and Arabs 'together'. Good, that's the only way to end hostilities in the long term.

Well, China's C919 won't fly before 2020. I don't know if the widebody will before 2030, but either way, Iranian airlines should have plenty of a380's by that time!

I have no idea if the owner/CEO of that UAE company is Iranian...but it would be likely as about 20% of UAE are Iranians
