Those two crashes happened a long time ago when ice was building up on the wings leading edges. That problem has been solved a long time ago.

Sadly, that could pretty much end the operation of the license-built version of the Antonov An-140 (the IRAN-140) in Iran.

Rouhani ordered to ground all of them after the crash in Tehran, 10 August 2014. No production of it since then either.

At least they are buying new ones.

Also, I read again today that no Russian planes will be bought.

I think they will buy some Boeing and Bombardier as well.

In short, all the IRAN-140's have been parked? Small wonder why for the ATR order of 40 planes--which could lead to an even bigger order in the near future.

Yep, no IrAn-140 in the air since then. But why would we compare IrAn-140 with ATR 76?

I too think down the road the A380 deal will be switched to A350 or something else, atleast some of them, Vietnam Airlines also dropped their A380 LoI, Virgi arent taking the ones they ordered, Hong Kong Airlines MoU might go too as might the order by Air Austral.

A330ceo family order is for a mix of A333 and A332 right?

As prestigious as the A380 is, it just makes little economic sense unless Iran Air believes it cannot get enough landing spots in major airports. In that case I can understand why they want 12.

Heathrow has no open spots so A380 may be the only option. I could also see the A380 on daily flights to Frankfurt, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, Toronto (would require 2 planes), Los Angeles (would require 2 planes), Sydney (would require 2 planes), Hajj, Najjaf, Damascus. But wherever possible, I would prefer 2 A330 or 2 A350 flights rather than 1 A380, as flight frequency gives better options and smaller planes are more comfortable.

My ideal for Iran Air would be:

For short haul flights
CS100 / CS300
A320

For European routes
A321
A330

Long haul
A330
A350

Does anyone know whether Iran Air plans new livery, cabins, and new classes of service?

Will they try get dedicated terminals?

Iranian companies are very bad at sharing plans.

One more question.

Iran has so many airlines. Will they be able to compete with Iran Air? Iran Air just spent 25 billion and will spend more.

Will there be any consolidation?

I know ATA serves Tabriz, Taban Mashhad, Kish Kish, Qeshm Tehran and Qeshm.

But airlines like Zagros or Caspian, what is their major hub?

Need to clear some things here. The deal is worth $10.5b, not $25b like previously mentioned. And the final agreement between Iran Air and Airbus will be signed within 20 days.

Can anybody confirm if any of the mentioned planes will allow for a LA-Tehran direct flight? And if so, anybody has any idea how long the flight will take? Thanks

Iran: A Goldmine For Commercial Aircraft Manufacturers?

Iran offers big opportunities, but fragmentation and financing complicate the market.

Only days after some of the economic sanctions against Iran were lifted in mid-January, the aviation industry discovered a new wonderland. Orders for 500 aircraft in the next five years, 200 deliveries in the next few month—these announcements by the Iranian government sound too good to be true. But are they?
