Why got Caspian airlines blacklisted and aseman airlines not? If it is only because of Caspians 737 it makes no sense. Aseman got T7-AWD and AWE, Caspian got T7-AWA, AWB and AWC. But only Caspian got blacklisted.

This case isn't about acquiring aircraft. It is that Caspian, like Mahan Air, has had some suspicious activities in USA's eyes.

I wrote a bit about it here http://www.aviationiran.com/2016/01/...pian-airlines/

Watch for an announcement of a large Sukhoi Superjet 100 order from Iran soon. We forget Iran is physically as big as Saudi Arabia itself and will likely need 450 to 600 modern airliners to modernize civil aviation in that country. The SSJ 100 would be perfect for many internal Iranian routes.

BTW when are they finalizing the deal with Airbus exactly? I really hope it goes well as planned and they don't change their minds or back off...

Unusual routing Mahan Flights

Hi There,

The last couple of days i found unusual flight routings from THR to Guangzhou en Beijing by Mahan. The flights went true Afghan airspace at lower alltitutes { they were flying at flight level 280 down from 350 when leaving Afghan airspace the went back up} Has anybody any idea why they are not flying true Turkmenistan airspace any more.

Greetings Walt

I've noticed that as well, they descend from cruise to around FL280 then go back up. I've seen it more than 2 times in the past week. Really odd

Dash-8 is much better.
The ATR72-600 had two crashes, one in PKZ (Lao Airlines, RDPL-34233 on 16OCT2013) and one in TSA (TransAsia Airways, B-22816 on 04FEB2015).

Written-offs rate:
- ATR42: 8.09% (36 of 445)
- ATR72: 3.00% (25 of 833)
- ATR72-600: 0.71% (2 of 282)

- DHC-8-400: 1.57% (8 of 510)
- DHC-8-Family: 2.45% (29 of 1182)

So, I think the ATR72-600 has not a very poor safety record...

Major airlines that operated the ATR72-600s:

- AeroMéxico (via Aeromar Airlines)
- Aer Lingus (via Stobart Air)
- Air Algérie
- Air France (via HOP!)
- Air India (via Alliance Air)
- Air New Zealand (via Mount Cook Airline)
- Avianca (some mainline, some via Isleña Airlines or Aviateca)
- Azul
- Garuda Indonesia
- Iberia (via Air Nostrum)
- Jet Airways
- SAS Scandinavian Airlines (via flybe and via Jet Time)
- Virgin Australia

Any questions?

Either the ATR OR the Bombardier Q400 makes more sense in Iran than an all jet fleet. Good short field and low density passenger performance.

Said to be due to strong headwinds at higher altitudes in western Pakistan.
