I noticed Syrian Air are not flying to Iran, why so? they do have some cargo flights to THR and Abadan with Il76 or are those carrying passengers? they are flying practically everywhere in the Middle East and north Africa with A320.

Few days back they operated Latakia-Abu Musa Island though with the Airbus.

If they already have troubles getting Canadian engines, all-Canadian made planes will even be a bigger problem. Big blow for Bombardier, whose opportunities to sell any CSeries to Iran are decreasing every day..

Superjet seems to be the better choice in this segment for Iran. Antonovs are very unlikely now since they are financed by arch-nemesis Saudi Arabia..

Trudeau promised to resume ties and embassies with Iran. We are still waiting

737 MAX order by Aseman, still pending approval from the US Government.

Boeing Announces Agreement with Iran Aseman Airlines for 30 737 MAXs

Quote:
SEATTLE, April 4, 2017 – Boeing confirms the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Iran Aseman Airlines, expressing the airline’s intent to purchase 30 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes with a list price value of $3 billion. The agreement also provides the airline with purchase rights for 30 additional 737 MAXs.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, an aerospace sale of this magnitude creates or sustains approximately 18,000 jobs in the United States. Deliveries would be scheduled to start in 2022.

Boeing negotiated the MOA under authorizations from the U.S. government following a determination that Iran had met its obligations under the nuclear accord signed in 2015. Boeing will look to the Office of Foreign Assets Control for approval to perform under this transaction. Boeing continues to follow the lead of the U.S. government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines are contingent upon U.S. government approval.

IranAir to Receive 9 Airbus Aircraft by the End of 2018

Last Saturday, IranAir took delivery of its second Airbus A330-200 (EP-IJB) and third Airbus from the 100-aircraft agreement sealed in December 2016. Similar to the two previous deliveries (A321 EP-IFA, A330 EP-IJA), the recent A330 was originally ordered by Avianca but never taken up. IranAir decided to take delivery of these three aircraft to speed up the delivery and fleet renewal process.

The aircraft has since its manufactured year in 2014 not performed any commercial flights, something the national carrier’s CEO and Chairman Farhad Parvaresh once again was compelled to explain to the public after falsehoods spread by media.

“The aircraft [Airbus A330-200, EP-IJB] has flown a total of 11 hours, 11 hours only for training! The new aircraft was formally handed over to IranAir on Friday [24 March 2017] and has never before been delivered to any other country”, IranAir’s CEO and Chairman Farhad Parvaresh was quoted as saying by Iran Newspaper.

During last weekend’s delivery ceremony at Tehran-Mehrabad Airport, Farhad Parvaresh said that IranAir expects to add four Airbus A320s during 2017 and another five Airbus A321s in 2018, according to a report by Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. In 2018, IranAir is also set to receive its first aircraft from the Boeing order.

In an earlier statement, the CEO had stated that the four Airbus A320s would arrive in the third quarter of 2017. However, he made clear that the plans may change if unforeseen events occur just like the delayed delivery of the second A330 due to financial issues. The aircraft was originally planned to be delivered prior to 20 March 2017. Currently, IranAir is in the process of selecting preferences and seats for the new Airbus A320s expected to be delivered later this year.

The first delivered aircraft on 11 January 2017, an Airbus A321 (EP-IFA), has since its debut operated flights to both domestic and international destinations. Until 24 March 2017, the aircraft had flown some 650 hours and served around 50,000 passengers. The second delivered aircraft on 1o March 2017, an Airbus A330 (EP-IJA), had until the same day flown some 90 flights and served around 20,000 passengers.

The second A330, delivered last weekend, is planned to perform some 150 flights to domestic destinations during Nowruz both to serve the high passenger number and for training purposes. At the time of writing, the A330 (EP-IJA) has not yet started operations.

After the Nowruz season, IranAir plans to deploy the Airbus A330s on European routes from Tehran-Imam Khomeini Airport and in late May 2017 on Far East routes. The national carrier has been forced to cancel its routes to the Far East due to the lack of aircraft but hopes to initially resume flights from Tehran to Beijing and Kuala Lumpur with the addition of these new widebody aircraft.

Iran to Receive Four Aircraft from ATR within 15 Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Transport Minister Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan said the French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR is slated to deliver four airplanes to the Islamic Republic within two weeks.

In remarks released on Monday, Fakhrieh Kashan pointed to a recent contract between Iran Air and the ATR to purchase 20 ATR 72-600 airplanes and said according to the deal, Iran will receive four planes within the next 15 days.

He said nine more airplanes will also be delivered to the Islamic Republic by the year’s end and the remaining seven aircraft will be delivered to the country in 2018.

Iran Air and ATR have spent months negotiating a firm order for 20 ATR 72-600 aircraft worth 540 million euros ($576 million) at list prices, with options for another 20.

The business talks for the purchase of the turboprops built by ATR were held during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his economic delegation’s visit to Rome in January 2016.

The deal follows a contract between Iran and Airbus on a major order, which includes dozens of Airbus’s biggest-selling jets.

Iran has agreed to buy 118 Airbus jets, including 45 A320 single-aisle aircraft, 45 A330 wide-bodies, 16 A350 twin-aisle aircraft, and 12 A380’s.

The article mentions the numbers from when the Airbus deal was 1st announced. When it was actually booked the number of A330s was a bit lower and the A380s had been dropped, no superjumbo's for Iran Air. In other words, sloppy journalism.

And Iran is a country with a population of 80 million but without any modern planes until some months ago (apart from some A340-600s). These orders are not to turn Iran Air into the new Emirates. They are simply building up a fleet which is representative for a nation like Iran.

I think the ATR's will find a major market in Iran anyway. Iran tried to use the Antonov An-140 (they even built a small number as IRAN-140's), but they were not well-liked by pilots and after a number of crashes, the planes were grounded. I wouldn't be surprised that Iran Air and other airlines in Iran ends up buying a lot more ATR 42/72 planes for shorter region routes in that country.
