new airport
only 1 of the 2 terminals has been build yet
IKIA stands for IMAM KHOMEINI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
the old one is Mehrabad which is located in the city and is currently only used by domestic flights

I don't understand what is so special about IKA, it's now about 5 years old...
The terminal two is a 20 year plan.
If I not mistaken we have already an Imam Khomeini Airport thread!

I made this Thread for Iran aviation in General so that we can have all things in 1 thread
and it's Iran biggest airport and also Tehrans International Airport...so it is imporatnat and special...

I dont agree with that. the 787 would be a very suitable option for iran air. I've never been on a domestic IR flight without a seat free. the 787 isnt big and isnt too small and can accomodate at least 2-3 F100's and 2 A320's into one flight giving more capacity and money

A 787??? In 10 years maybe....
It would be an option for flights to Europe to replace the 310/300.
It's a very bad time in aviation history. Iranian people are frightend to fly these 20-30 years old Tupolev and other old aircrafts so the flights are almost empty (excluded flights in summer, nowruz etc.)! All Iranian airlines must stop flying aircrafts which are older then 20 years, I think.
A good option for domestic flights would be A320/A321 (which is bigger) or B757.(Spare parts???)

spare parts will still be a problem with any airbus aircraft.

Any idea what happened to EP-IBB (i think) at arlanda a month or so back?

I think 787 will not be a good option for Iran simply because of what others have already stated here - the need for replacing most part of the fleet requires them to buy many smaller planes but in better condition.

If I'm not mistaken it's flying again...

EP-IEF had made an emergency landing at Ahwaz in January (engine failture) and it's still grounded there.....
Hope we will see it flying again but I think it won't happen.

No, not the A300-600! They are "only" 16 years old... The A310 19 years and the A300 B2 and B4 are already about 25 years old.
I hope Iran Air will replace the B747 SP/747-100, A300 B2 and B4 and the B727!

Can't wait to see an A340 in Mahan colours...

The age isn't the matter but the flying hours...
16 or 19 it doesn't matter they're both very old for an aircraft...
let's hope for newer planes
anyway I think Iran's aviation is doing a very good job!
