On January 15, 2004 an Iran Air Boeing 747SP-86 EP-IAC with 180 passengers and crew onboard suffered hydraulic problems after departure from Beijing Capital International Airport, China. The aircraft returned to the airport, but the nose gear collapsed upon landing. The aircraft was ferried back to Tehran where it was withdrawn from service. Now after 6 years and complex overhaul this giant beauty flies again.

yes the MD-80 are old and unsafe.

I saw on the IKA website that there are 3 Nouvelair flights to Monastir.
Are they charter flights or a mistake???
There are also Sky airlines and Onur Air flying today.

Finally a much needed Int'l flight for Shiraz. They should have done it a long time ago

I don't think Shiraz is Iran's 6th city it should be 4th at least.

Iran ready to cooperate with new airlines

The Islamic Republic of Iran voices readiness to cooperate with new aviation companies, as the country braces for redoubled effort and work in the new Iranian year (started March 21).

"With the equipment and facilities available at the airports (across the country), we are ready to receive new firms," Mohsen Esmaeli, the Managing Director of Iran Airports Company, told IRNA news agency on Monday.

He also added that a "safe flight" requires advanced radar and navigation systems in the air and on the ground, which should be supported by the Company.

"The Company's services in managing safe flights comply with international standards," noted the official, adding that there is still some way to go until the true realization of satisfactory flights for passengers.

Esmaeli said some 1,000 domestic and 180-190 international flights were recorded each day during this year's Nowruz holidays.

The figures show a massive increase in comparison with the same period last year.

Iran Air restricted from European airspace

The European Commission announced Tuesday that it included Iran Air on its list of restricted airliners because of serious safety concerns.

The European Commission, in its 13th update to the list of airlines embargoed in the European Union, added Iran Air to its list of restricted airliners. The commission said it planned to visit Iran over the next months to review the oversight of Iranian civil aviation.

Iran has witnessed around 12 fatal air crashes in the 21st century. The situation is exacerbated by Western restrictions on replacement parts.

Iran Air to continue EU flights as scheduled: official

Iran Air will continue its routine flight schedule to European Union countries as there are no real restrictions imposed on its flight operations, the head of Iran's national air carrier in Germany, Mohammad Reza Rajabi told IRNA on Tuesday. The latest statement released by the European Commission did not level any specific restrictions or conditions on the number of flights, Rajabi said.

The Air Safety Committee put certain conditions in terms of which Iran Air aircraft will be allowed for its flight operations to Europe, he added.

Iran Air flights to Germany vary between eight and 10 flights a week depending on the time of the year, according to Rajabi.

The commission said it planned to visit Iran over the next months to review the oversight of Iranian civil aviation.

Thats shocking news! I wasn't expecting that at all! wouldn't it be better going to mashhad than shiraz though? Would love to see two IRA birds in LHR at the same time. I think the timing is also wrong as thats the exact same time as the IKA flight arrives and departs.

also not good news about the banning. Hope they come to their senses and see that there hasnt been any major incident with iran air in foreign airspace and land. I think this would be implemented so more people would fly with european carriers which I think is totally wrong. anyway, even if they are banned, most iranian ppl will fly with emirates

Iran air is allowed to fly to Europe, but they can only use certain aircrafts ( I think only Airbus...)
But I think it is the right thing their are doing: The Boeing are older than 30 years and Iran Air can't really get spare parts for them! IR should replace them with Airbus airplanes at once.
