I do not know, but I suppose it's leased from Bukovyna, because also the A306 from Mahan came via this company.

Incident: Bukovyna MD82 near Kermanshah on May 18th 2011, engine shut down in flight

A Bukovyna Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD-82 on behalf of Iran Air Tours, registration UR-BXI performing flight B9-959 from Kermanshah to Tehran Mehrabad (Iran), was climbing through FL250 out of Kermanshah about 12 minutes into the flight when the crew observed decreasing EPR, N1 and N2 indications and an EPR indication above limit for the left hand engine (JT8D). Reducing the engine to idle didn't return the parameters into permitted range prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Kermanshah for a safe landing.

Ukraine's Ministry of Transport - overseeing Bukovyna Aviation - reported that an engine examination revealed extensive damage to the engine's inlet and compressor as well as metal chips in the bleed air tubes as result of foreign object ingestion. The ministry listed "airport security" as a contributing factor.

Incident: Khors MD83 at Tehran on May 16th 2011, engine shut down in flight

A Khors Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 on behalf of Sahand Airlines, registration UR-CJE performing flight IRS-5816 from Tehran Mehrabad to Ahwaz (Iran), was climbing through 5200 feet out of Tehran, the crew was just reducing takeoff to climb thrust, when the right hand engine (JT8D) emitted a loud bang, the crew identifying the right hand engine was surging followed by a substantial increase in EGT and a substantial decrease in N1 and N2 indications. The crew secured the engine and returned to Tehran for a safe landing.

Ukraine's Ministry of Transport - overseeing Khors Airlines - reported, that the engine sustained substantial internal damage causing the engine to surge. An investigation to determine the cause of the internal damage has been initiated.

U.S. Imposes Sanctions Against Iran Air

Jun 24, 2011

By Frank Jackman

The U.S. Treasury Department Thursday imposed sanctions against Iran Air after designating the carrier a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction for providing material support and services to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL).

Iran Air Cargo and Iran Air Tours, both of which are units of Iran Air, also were designated for sanctions.

The U.S. alleges that Iran Air has on numerous occasions over the past decade shipped military-related electronic parts and mechanical equipment on behalf of MODAFL and the IRGC. In September and November 2008, Iran Air shipped aircraft-related raw materials, including titanium sheets that have dual-use military applications, to a MODAFL-associated company, Treasury says.

Also, “rockets or missiles have been transported via Iran Air passenger aircraft, and IRGC officers occasionally take control over Iran Air flights carrying special IRGC-related cargo,” the U.S. says, adding that Iran Air flights also have been used to transport missile or rocket components to Syria.

The Treasury Departments move to “designate” Iran Air essentially means that any assets the company may have in U.S. jurisdictions will be blocked or frozen, and no U.S. individual or company is allowed to engage in any transactions with the carrier.

This is not the first time the Iranian carrier has come under scrutiny. U.N. Security Council resolution 1803, adopted in March 2008, calls on countries to inspect cargo headed to or from Iran on aircraft owned or operated by Iran Air Cargo if they have reasonable grounds.

According to the Ascend database, Iran Air operates an aging fleet of 49 aircraft, largely comprising Airbus A300s and A310s, Boeing 727s, and Boeing 747-100/-200 combis. Its youngest aircraft are a handful of Airbus A320s. It also has six aircraft in storage. Iran Air Tours has seven McDonnell Douglas MD-82s in operation, and two MD-82s and 12 Tupolev Tu-154s in storage, according to Ascend.

According to the Treasury Department, the “designation” of Iran Air was made under authority of Executive Order 13382, which is aimed at “freezing the assets of proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their supporters thereby isolating them from the U.S. commercial and financial systems.”

Strange cabin of EP-MNS: the forward part of the cabin has still the old Lufthansa seats but the seats in the back are already the new ones.
