I just saw that Mahan will start as of tomorrow flights to Istanbuls Sabiha airport twice a week. I assume that is the second airport in Istanbul since Mahan already flys to that city?

There are rumors, that Mahan sells two of their A310-300 to Iran Air. One of them could be EP-MNV. These news aren't confirmed yet.

I dont understand whats been going on there. GECAS aircraft leasing (part of general electric) got the aircraft grounded at Birmingham airport. But what dealings between Mahan Air and GECAS could there possibly have been? GECAS is a US aircraft leasing company and therefore off limits to Iranian airlines' business. Is F-OJHH still impounded?

F-OJHH has executed no flights since June 30th:

I think it could be, that it has something to do with the 744 from Mahan. Maybe they want Mahan to bring the planes back to the UK/US.

It looks like the latest sanctions on Iran Air are having a huge impact on Mahan Air's European operations.

The US Bureau of Industry and Security has recently claimed jurisdiction over one of Mahan Air's A310 due to the US origin components installed in the aircraft. As a result, the aircraft that had been scheduled to fly from Birmingham, UK to Tehran has now been grounded for the foreseeable future at Birmingham airport.

The following is an excerpt outlining the action taken by the US Bureau of Industry and Security against Mahan Air's A310 aircraft:

From: http://www.exportlawblog.com/archives/3238 :

"BIS has now added Paris-based Zarand Aviation to the TDO based on a lease of an Airbus 310 by Zarand to Mahan. The Airbus 310 in question is now grounded for the forseeable future at the Birmingham Airport in the United Kingdom. Although the aircraft was manufactured in and exported from France, BIS claims jurisdiction over the aircraft because it has U.S.-origin G.E. engines which are classified as ECCN 9A991.d and which constitute more than 10 percent of the value of the aircraft. Information on the leased 310-304 can be found here, including confirmation that the aircraft has two GE CF6-80C2A2 engines.

A Google search for Zarand Aviation suggests that it has little other business activity than the Mahan lease in question. The major effect, then, of this TDO will be to keep the aircraft grounded in the United Kingdom.

Mahan is supposed to have eight Airbus aircraft in its fleet."

Even more bad news:

Academy blocks Iranians from flight training

An aircraft pilot training academy will no longer teach students from Iran Air following recent sanctions brought by the Americans against the airline.

Arlanda Airport in Stockholm is used as a base by the Oxford Aviation Academy, formerly the SAS Flight Academy, who have been training pilots from the Iranian airline since January this year. However, in line with American sanctions against the airline the contract between the two parties has been abandoned with immediate effect.

America claims that Iran Air has links with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, an organization that allegedly supports terrorist activity in the Middle East, according to a report in Aftonbladet.

According to reports, the airline has been providing materials and services to the IRGC. Terrorism expert Magnus Ranstorp said to the paper, “There is an escalation of pressure against Iran”

Meanwhile there is little more explanation from the pilot training company.

“We have no further comment beyond the press release”, said Oxford Aviation Academy’s Emma O'Donnell at the company’s headquarters in the UK.

The organization, also known as the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution has rumoured to be behind in several major attacks in the past 20 years, including the 1983 United States Embassy bombing in Beirut.

An A310 which previously flew for the German Airforce with reg. 10+22 was ferried to Kiev. It will probably fly for Mahan in the future!

10+22 very sad, one-way trip to Kiev, will never come back

10+22 all titles removed

  1. A310 EK-31047 won't fly for Mahan. It will be scrapped and used for spare parts. Lets see what will happen to the two ex Thai A306. (HS-TAG and TAH)
  2. EP-MHM has resumed service after C-Check.
  3. BAe UR-CIL has started service for Mahan Air.
