Iranian passenger jet crashes into refueling truck

Passengers on an Iran Air flight learned the hard way why you should keep your seat belt securely fastened while taxiing after their plane collided with a truck loaded with jet fuel.
Details are a little limited at this point, but what we know from friend and photographer Mokhtar Chahine is that the incident happened at the Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia. The tail number and insignia clearly identifies it as an Iran Air jet.

Based on the tipped nature of the refueling truck it looks like the plane crashed into the truck and not the other way around. In the event of an explosion, please proceed to the exit that suddenly opens over the left side of the plane.

A few pages back, I see IKA has only one runway. Is that really the case? What's the traffic like there? Isn't it 10mil a year?

IKIA has 2 runways, 2 others are being under construction, also IKIA is at his first phase, till phase 4 they are planning 2 other big terminals, a Hajj terminal and cargo hangars, a big hotel and many other facilities www.ikia.ir, currently IKIA can handle 12 million passengers and hopefully 90 million when phase 4 is done, which we won't reach but the terminals will be big enough to handle

Thank You. That sounds much better. I can tell the traffic is easly over 10Mil, and a single runway would not be logical in this case.

No, true, once phase 3 is done, domistic flights will divert from Mehrabad to IKA, so we need the extra terminals and runways for sure, anyway I'm going to post a list with airlines that come to IKIA

Online booking?

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any idea why Iranian airlines like Mahan for instance, don't have online booking systems, although they have many international passengers (Not sure about this though!)?

if you can't succeed you have to call the Iran Air office in Germany, Engeland, France, or were ever, they will handle your ticket, they will send you an e-ticket, I usually call to the office in Cologne or Frankfurt, they do both, Iran Air and Mahan flight

Thanks,

I am aware of those, but first they are mostly in parsi, second they only offer tickets for domestic flights! For instance, I'm in Australia and I was planning to use airasia to go to Malaysia and then use Mahan to travel to Shiraz, but I can't do it unless I call Mahan branch in Malaysia!

you can find the Mahan office numer in Malaysia there, otherwise you can go to Dubai from Australia and from there to Shiraz

Tehran Mehrabad doesn't really need one since it's actually almost in the center of Tehran.

IKA has highways connecting, and a metro currently under construction, but no railway

well when the airport was build in the 1940s I guess it was out of the city, but after many years, Tehran growed day by day and got bigger and bigger so now the airport is almost in the center it's close to the Azadi Tower, you can look it up in google earth or maps, besides Tehran is still growing and booming, so idk what it will be like in 20 years
