Can Iran order Russian aircrafts? They better do it because old Boeings and Airbuses are going to eventually become 100% unusable no matter what Iranian engineers do.

No, they can't.

Iran Air did order 5 Tupolev Tu-204 planes in 2007, but because the engines of that plane are developed in cooperation with Pratt & Whitney it falls under the sanctions. The same goes for Chinese planes, Comac uses Western suppliers therefor it can't sell planes to China.

If Russia or China would come with a plane 100% Russian or Chinese it would be able to sell the plane to Iran. But even then it might be become a problem for these manufactures since it would put a strain on deals they have with companies from the US or the EU.

The only way for the Iranian airlines is to try to buy newer 2nd hand planes. And it's not just that it's harder no to even buy 2nd hand planes, the A340 was also bought via via using an independent trader and a Bangladeshi Airline. It's also a problem that newer airplanes are technologically more advanced, therefor it becomes harder to keep them flying for the Iranian engineers without original spare parts.

What about those Russian made engines used on Il 96 and Tupolev planes?

That was the plan after the initial Tu-204 order was blocked because of the engines. Tupolev has offered a version with 100% Russian engines, but judging from the articles on that I find on the internet it's unclear what the status is of those planes. An article from 2010 says that the new version was rejected by Iran because it wasn't cost effective enough. But newer articles from 2011 suggest that several Iranian carriers are interested in the plane. The current status of older orders is uncertain, the future will tell if new Tupolev planes will fly for Iran.

The Il 96 isn't really an option since the production capacity is so limited at 1 plane per year.

All in all it's not as straightforward as it seems, buying planes without American parts it's simply not that easy.

It's sad to see that Iran's aviation industry is also sanctioned.

As you people on here can see lots of incidents have happened recently, but nobody has died... yet.

I wish they could lift the aviation sanctions so that people can fly safely, acts conducted by the government should not punish the people.

Well the thing is, the reason why aviation industry is sanctioned is because aircrafts sold to iran can easily be used for military purposes, I believe.

Passenger planes can become a bomber plane. Probably wont be a great weapon but still.

I don't think that it's relevant reason at all. It makes no sense.

Regarding new planes, the other choice is Ukrainian Antonov-148/158. It doesn't fall under sanctions as (i) it's build of Ukrainian and Russian parts only and (ii) Antonov-148 is assembled both in Ukraine and Russia; Antonov-158 is assembled in Ukraine.

Well that was unexpected!

Apparently she was stored in Arizona and has just recently completed a C4 and D6 check.

86,715 Flight hours,
16,396 cycles.

She's been quite a bit round the world.

More on the 747-300 for Iran Air, it looks like it will be the 1st of 3 747-300s.

Quote:
Iran Air lines up three Boeing 747-300s

Iran Air has acquired the first of three Boeing 747-300s from Al Sayegh Airlines.

UAE-based Sayegh Group, which owns Kyrgyzstan-based Al Sayegh Airlines, says: "Please [note] that Sayegh Group sold the three 747-300[s] to an aviation company, but not to Iran."

A source close to the matter confirms the aircraft was sold to an unnamed Gambian company. "It looks like the Gambian entity has fronted the deal,"

Al Sayegh Airlines has two further 747-300s in its fleet (MSN 23224 and 23823), which are both in storage and scheduled to be sold to Iran Air in May this year, sources say.

So this former Australian plane, was owned by a company in Kyrgyzstan was sold to a company in Gambia that sold the planes to Iran.

Nice.

Just as Momo stated Iran's aviation industry is sanctioned and therefore they find it difficult to buy new planes, so they have to do special transactions to avoid the U.S sanctions.

Sadly because of this the Iranian aircraft fleet is very old and it puts a significant risk to innocent Iranians travelling...

dude every aspect of iranian life is sanctioned by the barbaric america-regime. that regime has a deep hate of everything iranians because they are jealous of 7000 years iranian history since they got none themselves. just as their hero and master alexander of macedonia, they hate everything iranian. america is a failing empire and they will be dissolved like the soviet union and the apartheid regime of south africa.
