I didn't mean it so. I thought this forum was in the Iran section, but now I have noticed that this is in the Airports and Aviation Thread of the whole world. I only asked me why there would be 2 aviation threads...and I didn't want you to take "responsibility of a failure" or something else, I only asked you a question... .
By the way the thread is very good and keep up the good work.

Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) (Persian: نیروی هوایی ارتش جمهوری اسلامی ایران) is the aviation branch of the Iranian armed forces.

History

The IRIAF came into being when the former Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) was re-named following the Islamic Revolution in Iran, in February 1979.

This "new" Iranian air force largely inherited the equipment and structure of the former IIAF, even losing most of its leading officers in the course of post-revolutionary chaos, as well as due to the prosecution of those considered as loyal to the Shah, pro-U.S. or elsewhere by the new government in Tehran.

Due to strained relations with the west, Iran had to procure new equipment from Brazil, Russia and the People's Republic of China. Since the Revolution, the exact composition of the IRIAF is hard to determine, but estimates do exist. Many aircraft belonging to the Iraqi Air Force took refuge in Iran during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, and many were put into service with the IRIAF or taken apart for spare parts.

Due to the continuous spare parts shortages faced by the air force, a decision was made in the late 1980s to develop a local aerospace industry to support the air force.

In 2002, Iran with the co-operation of Ukraine, successfully started the manufacture of the Iran-140; a licence-built version of the Antonov An-140 transport aircraft. Simultaneously, Iran began construction of two 100% domestically-produced fighters, upgraded using technology from the F-14 Tomcat and the F-5 Tiger II. The fighters have been named the Azarakhsh and the Shafaq.

Since then the country has also become self-sufficient in the manufacture of helicopters. The country claims that it is capable of producing the old U.S. AH-1 Cobra gunship. Additionally, Iran also produces Bell Helicopter Bell 212 and Bell 206 helicopters in serial production. These are known respectively as the Shabaviz 2-75 and the Shabaviz 206.

Current composition

In the last several years several new airfields have been constructed in central- and eastern Iran. Some of these facilities have since seen full-scale deployments of IRIAF units, and it now appears that at least two became permanent "Tactical Fighter Bases" (TFBs). These are the first such bases established since 1979. Except new airfields, with Chinese support, the IRIAF constructed also a number of new early warning radar sites around the country. Its ability to control the national airspace, however, remains limited - mainly due to the rugged terrain and lack of airborne early warning assets.

Aside from maintaining 14 TFBs, the IRIAF operates numerous temporary detachments on several minor airfields around the country. Ex-Iraqi Mirage F.1EQs, usually based at TFB.14, near Mashhad, were frequently seen over the Persian Gulf, in 2005 and 2006.

Iran to Stage Largest Air Show Tomorrow

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army Air Force is planning to display the defensive power of the Islamic Republic of Iran by staging the largest air show in the history of the country on Saturday.

The IRI Air Force plans to display 140 aircrafts from 13 different types in its Saturday show to mark the country's Army Day which will also include parades by other units of the Iranian army.

Young pilots who have received all their military trainings, including flying lessons, at Iranian centers will display the country's military power with such fighter jets as F4, F5, Azarakhsh and Saeqeh.

Tens of fighter jets due to take part in the Saturday air show completed their last exercise sorties in the presence of senior Army commanders at Tehran's Air Base 1 on Thursday.

Squadrons of F4, F5, F7, F14, Saeqeh (Thunderbolt), Azarakhsh (Lightening), Suko 24 and Mig 29 fighter jets along with other military planes, including Airborne Warning aircrafts, Booing 707 and 747, C130 and P3F are scheduled to fly over the Iranian capital Tehran during the show.

Earlier in February Iranian Deputy Defense Minister General Ahmad Vahidi said that Iran will produce more modern military planes after its success in building 'Saeqeh' (Thunderbolt) and 'Azarakhsh' (Lightening) fighter jets.

"We have built some fighter jets, including Azarakhsh and Saeqeh, in our country that could fly and it is natural that we won't stop and will take the necessary steps for their development," Vahidi said.

Saeqeh, a joint product of the Iranian Air Force and the Defense Ministry, went on display as part of the Iranian air force's fleet during the military parades on the Army Day last year.

Vahidi also announced that Iran has produced spy planes with the flying range of 1,000 km.

Meantime, Lieutenant Commander of infantry division 30 of the Iranian Army's Ground Force General Sirous Razmgir announced in remarks in the northern province of Mazandaran on Thursday that a home-made Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is also due to go on display during the Saturday air show.

Teheran airport temporarily suspends functioning due to Day of Armed Forces in Iran

Teheran airport has temporarily suspended functioning on the occasion of Day of the Armed Forces in Iran, the IRINN news channel reported.

"The functioning of the airport was suspended in the morning of April 16 at 09:00-11:00. The functioning of the airport will be suspended on 18 April at 08:00-12:00. This step was taken to ensure security in connection with the celebration of Day of the Armed Forces of Iran" said Reza Jafarzade, spokesman for the Iranian State Airline Company.

April 18 is the Day of the Armed Forces in Iran. A parade will be held in front of the tomb of former spiritual leader of Iran's Supreme Ayatollah Homenei.

its astonishing to see that Iran is still capable to fly F4 and F5 fighters which are nearly 40 years old under sanctions!

does anyone know the real number of F14 Tomcats in service?

you're welcome, as you are interested in Aerospace -especially the Aerospace of Iran, I thought you would be interested in this website: www.aerocenter.ir - it is an Aerospace website of Iran which is in farsi. I don't know whether you can read farsi or not, but if you can read it, it could be useful for you.
