Have no clue about this Medical Tourism, my suspicion is that it has a lot to do with a sizeable proportion of overseas based Patels being from the Anand/Vadodara Charotar region and opting for cheaper operations in India.

However, vadodra has several private sector hospitals that can be considered speciality and offer good medical services at relatively cheaper costs. They are not national chains, but the doctors are generally well regarded. If you want some specific information, I might be able to dig it up. As someone pointed out, due to lack of international connectivity, these are not as famous as say the Appolo Hospital in Chennai. Were connectivity to Ahmedabad improved especially connections to East Africa, UK etc, these would definitely take-off. |

Thank u for sharing; very refreshing to hear that there might be resurgence.
I actually did not agree with Some points. For instance, the city benefitted very marginally due to Public sector investment around; if anything, they utilized the city resources and provided nothing in return. Vadodra also missed the software driven growth due to it's reliance on engg industries. However, that might be about to change. I think the German growth model is probably more appropriate than others here. |

Anyone residing in our beloved city can post an update on the airport status with pictures if possible? I haven't been to our city since last 5 years and thereby have no idea of whats going on there. Googling didn't reveal anything either.
(Sorry this is a re-post as I didn't notice this (more active) thread earlier.) I will be going this July, and looking at all these projects I hope to be coming to a completely new place ![]() Thanks. |

No idea about Harinagar flyover, but the one on VIP Road is well underway. The pillars have come up on the side that leads to Airport. Will post the pics soon.

Vadodara saves Rs 3.5 crore in street light consumption
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken action for energy efficiency in street light services and has been able to save energy worth Rs 3.5 crore in a year. VMC commissioner Ashwini Kumar said by implementing the international level lighting and intelligent street light controllers with GSM monitoring the yearly energy bill of the VMC is reduced to Rs 10 crore from Rs 13.50 crore. VMC chairman got the national award for 'Energy Conservation in Street Lighting' by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) at a function held in Delhi on Friday, from deputy chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Total area of coverage of VMC is 160 sq km and its total population is over 16 Lakh for which 1,691 km of street lighting is covered in Vadodara. |
