VADODARA: Shell company commissioned its second plant of bitumen at Savli GIDC on Thursday to meet the growing demand of organic liquid's
specialty products in western and central parts of the country. A range of products, including emulsions, crumb rubber modified bitumen and polymer modified bitumen will be manufactured at the plant, which is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery to ensure quality.

The Savli plant will manufacture about 50,000 tonne of bitumen annually. According to top authorities at Shell, bitumen produced in Savli plant will be used to meet demand of major projects of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), rural road infrastructure and airports.

"The plant capacity can be expanded to meet market demand in future. We already have a plant in east and now we have one in western part of the country to cater to states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Maharashtra. We may expand to southern parts in future as well," said chairman of Shell Group of Companies in India Vikram Singh Mehta. Shell's first bitumen plant is at Uluberia near Kolkata in West Bengal, commissioned in December 2006.

Eight million US dollar has been invested in Savli plant. The company can expect good demand, considering the number of six-lane and four-lane highway projects taken up by Gujarat government. According to an estimate, the state government has road projects worth about Rs 8,000 crore in pipeline.

Mehta said Gujarat is the most important state for his company as majority of its business comes from here. "Our total investment in India is about Rs 5,000 crore, out of which Rs 3,000 crore is invested in Gujarat. The company's turnover in India, excluding service facility is about Rs 10,000 crore," Mehta added.

The company has a technology centre in Bangalore and a financial centre in Chennai. Shell has an LNG terminal in Hazira, but company doesn't have any plans to expand its capacity at present. "Everything depends on market forces and demand for the product," Mehta said.

BCA inaugurates new cricket ground with a friendly tie

VADODARA: Former cricketers and members of Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) played a friendly five-over match to inaugurate the newly made FB Colony
Cricket ground near Bhailal Amin Hospital on Monday.

The new cricket ground, given by Alembic Ltd to BCA, has been prepared to allow players get more practice and matches in future.

Presidents XI clashed with Vice-President's XI in the five-over game, which the VP XI won.

Captained by Ravi Deshmukh, President's XI scored 28 runs in five overs that was easily chased by VP XI captained by Amar Petiwale in four overs. BCA president Chirayu Amin, Irfan Pathan and other senior BCA officials were present for the inauguration of the ground located in FB Colony and prepared by Vasudev Patel.

"It was just a friendly meet to inaugurate the ground and we all had lots of fun," Deshmukh said after the match. Irfan praised the ground that has been prepared according to international standards. It will be available to BCA from October 20, and the association may also hold Ranji matches here in future.

Consultants to design, manage city's outdoor sports complex project

VADODARA: The outdoor sports complex project, which is to come up in Manjalpur area here, has got a major boost with Vadodara Municipal Corporation
(VMC) deliberating over the appointment of an agency to plan and design the project as well as provide project management services.

The civic body has already received a grant for the project from Gujarat Municipal Finance Board (GMFB).

As per the plans mooted by the civic body, two separate sports complexes are to come up in the city, an indoor complex at Sama and an outdoor one in Manjalpur.

The agency that will oversee the indoor project has already been appointed after a nod of standing committee in January. In the same meeting, VMC commissioner was authorised to take a decision on the outdoor stadium at Manjalpur as well.

According to sources, the agency will have to provide plans and design for the project, give structural designs, prepare detailed estimates, do tendering and decide on contractors. It will also have to provide project management services like daily supervision, quality checks, prepare daily progress reports, scrutinise bills and ensure completion of the project.

The agenda for the standing committee states that the lowest tender for the work has come at a rate of 2.5 per cent of total project cost plus service tax. The matter will be taken up by standing committee of the civic body later this week.

Manjalpur stadium will have facilities for athletics, football, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, lawn tennis and a gymnasium. Similarly, the civic body will ensure that the indoor stadium at Sama has facilities for table tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, swimming and, if possible, a shooting range. VMC is trying to ensure that the complexes are dedicated to the city in Golden Jubilee year of Gujarat's statehood in 2010.

Tourists in Vadodara will be able to board an air-conditioned mini bus, which will take them on a guided tour of the city.
The service was kicked off today on the World Tourism Day in the city.

While, the service will be handled by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) would provide the tour guide, literature about famous landmark, monuments and places to the tourists. VMC will also handle booking at its Pravasi Gruh opposite the railway station. Vadodara District Tourism Development Committee and district administration is also contributing to this idea.

According to sources, the bus would start the journey at the station and take a circular route in which famous spots, including EME temple, Planetarium at Sayajibaugh, Kirtimandir, Maharshi Arvind Ashram near Lakdi Pul, Fatehsinh Museum would be covered before its return to the station.

The bus service will be divided into two parts: on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, city tour will be conducted, while on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the tour will cover city tour and tourist places located near the city. The main attraction of the tour will be visit to Lakshmi Vilas palace and Fatehsingh Rao Museum, which were not open to tourists.

A special discount offer has been given for the month October. District collector office intends to start industrial and religious tours if this primary tour succeeds.

There is more than one reason for Vadodara to cheer the country's first pan-India super-luxury train the Maharajas' Express billed as
Asia's costliest train.

The train, which will be flagged off from Mumbai in January 2010, will put Vadodara on the tourist's map. Apart from becoming the first halt of the Princely India Tour, the city will also be honoured when well-known city architect Karan Grover will anchor specialised tours for the train.

This train is the product of Royale Indian Rail Tours Limited (RIR) a joint venture of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Cox and Kings India Limited.

But for Grover's efforts, the train would have made a stop at Ahmedabad bypassing Vadodara, where it will now spend an entire day. The tourists, who will shell out more than Rs 1 lakh per day, will be taken to the World Heritage Site of Champaner-Pavagadh, century-old Jambughoda Palace and the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace.

A year ago, when Cox and Kings had come for a recce of Gujarat, they approached Grover for the Champaner-Pavagadh tour. It was proposed that the train will stop only at Ahmedabad from where the organisers wanted Grover to help arrange logistics so that tourists could be taken to a tour of the UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site of Champaner, the ancient town with ruins scattered over the foothills of Pavagadh. But, Grover insisted that the train should halt at Vadodara, as Gujarat's cultural capital with its rich heritage has much to offer as well.

"It was then that they requested me to choreograph a day for Vadodara," says Grover, who has now been requested to anchor prestigious trips to showcase his India' for once or twice every six months.

"I am extremely honoured and excited that Maharajas' Express wishes to tailor-make a yatra with me as the anchor. The new cricket ground, given by Alembic Ltd to BCA, has been prepared to allow players get more practice and matches in future. Presidents XI clashed with Vice-President's XI in the five-over game, which the VP XI won. Captained by Ravi Deshmukh, President's XI scored 28 runs in five overs that was easily chased by VP XI captained by Amar Petiwale in four overs. BCA president Chirayu Amin, Irfan Pathan and other senior BCA officials were present for the inauguration of the ground located in FB Colony and prepared by Vasudev Patel. "It was just a friendly meet to inaugurate the ground and we all had lots of fun," Deshmukh said after the match. Irfan praised the ground that has been prepared according to international standards. The Patel Registered User Join Date: Aug 2009 Posts: 153 Likes (Received): 0	Outdoor sports complex project Consultants to design, manage city's outdoor sports complex project VADODARA: The outdoor sports complex project, which is to come up in Manjalpur area here, has got a major boost with Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) deliberating over the appointment of an agency to plan and design the project as well as provide project management services. The civic body has already received a grant for the project from Gujarat Municipal Finance Board (GMFB). As per the plans mooted by the civic body, two separate sports complexes are to come up in the city, an indoor complex at Sama and an outdoor one in Manjalpur. The agency that will oversee the indoor project has already been appointed after a nod of standing committee in January. In the same meeting, VMC commissioner was authorised to take a decision on the outdoor stadium at Manjalpur as well. According to sources, the agency will have to provide plans and design for the project, give structural designs, prepare detailed estimates, do tendering and decide on contractors. It will also have to provide project management services like daily supervision, quality checks, prepare daily progress reports, scrutinise bills and ensure completion of the project. The agenda for the standing committee states that the lowest tender for the work has come at a rate of 2.5 per cent of total project cost plus service tax. The matter will be taken up by standing committee of the civic body later this week. Manjalpur stadium will have facilities for athletics, football, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, lawn tennis and a gymnasium. Similarly, the civic body will ensure that the indoor stadium at Sama has facilities for table tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, swimming and, if possible, a shooting range. The service was kicked off today on the World Tourism Day in the city. While, the service will be handled by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) would provide the tour guide, literature about famous landmark, monuments and places to the tourists. VMC will also handle booking at its Pravasi Gruh opposite the railway station. Vadodara District Tourism Development Committee and district administration is also contributing to this idea. According to sources, the bus would start the journey at the station and take a circular route in which famous spots, including EME temple, Planetarium at Sayajibaugh, Kirtimandir, Maharshi Arvind Ashram near Lakdi Pul, Fatehsinh Museum would be covered before its return to the station. The bus service will be divided into two parts: on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, city tour will be conducted, while on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the tour will cover city tour and tourist places located near the city. The main attraction of the tour will be visit to Lakshmi Vilas palace and Fatehsingh Rao Museum, which were not open to tourists. A special discount offer has been given for the month October. The train, which will be flagged off from Mumbai in January 2010, will put Vadodara on the tourist's map. Apart from becoming the first halt of the Princely India Tour, the city will also be honoured when well-known city architect Karan Grover will anchor specialised tours for the train. This train is the product of Royale Indian Rail Tours Limited (RIR) a joint venture of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Cox and Kings India Limited. But for Grover's efforts, the train would have made a stop at Ahmedabad bypassing Vadodara, where it will now spend an entire day. The tourists, who will shell out more than Rs 1 lakh per day, will be taken to the World Heritage Site of Champaner-Pavagadh, century-old Jambughoda Palace and the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace. A year ago, when Cox and Kings had come for a recce of Gujarat, they approached Grover for the Champaner-Pavagadh tour. It was proposed that the train will stop only at Ahmedabad from where the organisers wanted Grover to help arrange logistics so that tourists could be taken to a tour of the UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site of Champaner, the ancient town with ruins scattered over the foothills of Pavagadh. But, Grover insisted that the train should halt at Vadodara, as Gujarat's cultural capital with its rich heritage has much to offer as well. "It was then that they requested me to choreograph a day for Vadodara," says Grover, who has now been requested to anchor prestigious trips to showcase his India' for once or twice every six months. "I am extremely honoured and excited that Maharajas' Express wishes to tailor-make a yatra with me as the anchor. This is a week-long yatra across cities of my choice on the Mumbai-Delhi route, showcasing an incredible India and its heritage interacting with master craftsmen, dancers, painters, musicians, eminent personalities; eating the royal cuisine in palaces along the route and experiencing my understanding of what makes this country one-of-its-kind in the world," Grover told TOI.
