Vilnius is clean indeed, Kampflamm, and very pleasant to visit--definitely worth it!

Some not very usual angles indeed. It will look much better when the city will turn green though.

Žvėrynas - one of the oldest neighborhood in Vilnius. Located near the city center, but very quiet. It's a mix of old wooden buildings, contemporary architecture, luxurious private houses or embassys.

Northern town
This is area about 2 km remote to the north of the city center. Until 1990 it was the soviet army military base. Started to develop in 2000 today, it is the largest newly built-up area of Vilnius.

Unfortunately there is some antagonism between certain camps in Poland and Lithuanian, ironic since they used to be one country for centuries and got along very well, but as you know nationalism and politics are more about separating people so you have a generation on both sides that is being taught to distrust the other and hence the oversensitivities. Vilnius (Wilno) has a very strong Polish influence but of course it is now the beautiful capital of Lithuania. Someday we will be able to have a mature, rational debate.

Indeed.
I believe the 'versions' of some specific moments of history are described in slightly different ways in Poland and Lithuania. Vilnius being not the least important example. In Lithuania, for instance, it is stressed that it was the political and historical heart of Lithuania. History textbooks probably won't stress the Polish influence too much.

In Poland it is probably described as a Polish city which now happens to be Lithuania (like Lviv in Ukraine). So of course there is some friction between those who sincerely believe that their version is the rightest a and the most true.

Judging from Russian empire population census this city was neither Polish nor Lithuanian, it was JEWISH. You both keep forgetting that.
