Sure.Parcham=Flag. Parcha in Russian = Rich cloth with Gold or Silver yarn. Other vocabularies give "parche" = cloth in Persian, is that true? What is the word of cloth, textile, fabric or similar material in Persian?

There are alot of words that have crossed over to Iran from Mother Russia and vice verse.
Also , many cultural things as well. I guess we've been neighbors for such a long time it's only normal. For example when I was alittle kid we always ate piroshki, I had NO idea it was Russian until I came to the USA and one of my Russian friends pointed it to me! LOL.. Also, babushka dolls are ingrained in our culture.. and most of us think they are Iranians. again I had NO idea there were Russian until very recently actually. I'm sure we can find more stuff. BTW, Modern Persian Langauage that is used in Iran today, is truly a mix of many different langauages. Middle Persian, Turkish, Arabic,Hindu,French, etc.. even English I know some people here have pre-judges about removing certain words from our vocabulary entirley b/c of their origin, but that's the beauty about that Middle East , that many civilizations lived there and many cultures have entered that part of the world. We should cherish this and throw away some of the pre-judges we have. Last edited by Irandoost; December 7th, 2012 at 08:57 PM. |

Originally, Aryans were in siberya.maybe that's the reason?
About parche and words in modern persian, these words have entered iran from russia. Samavar is the same too. Words like garishga(ant) have entered azeri too

its actually samovar, yes , a russian term
kaleske, doroshke etc are also russian , the old persian is vardiyun parche is not russian though, its the combination of pare+che pare che i az yek jaame the reason of the similarities is that our languages are from one ancestor, proto indo european, which is also the ancestor for all european languages , hindu etc etxcept for basque, and a few other non indo-ep. languages some modern words however are loanwords there are also many perisan words in russian likewise many russian in persian, especially in machinery and military terms lol@ pirashki i had the same reaction, although our pirashkis are completely different, ours are like meat and veggie stuffed bread (it had a specific persian name, cant remember it) russian pirashkis are dessert, like cream filled sweet bread Last edited by SoroushPersepolisi; December 7th, 2012 at 09:32 PM. |

I'd speak about Aryan's language as proto language for all. It is, of cause, not so simple to detect correct, but like this is close (if stack maps area together):
Source: Wiki ![]() ![]() ![]() Area of Aryan's (Indo-Iranian) language (s). BTW, piroshki (we say PIROZHKI) have a lot of types, with meet, without, with fish, with eggs, etc. A lot of Russian words came to Persian from Rus-Persian wars & mostly this time, I think: http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%A8%...B2%D8%A7%D9%82

Hey guys, do you have tips to read persian more easily? I mean it can be quite easy to read basic persian (bàbà àb dad, television negàh mikonam etc...) but to read newspaper or article on website that have word you don't know is a different story..
what is difficult is : - to guess the presence or absence of a voyel (the accent : a,e,o) in a word - to guess the voyel (a,e,o) - some letter have 3 different prononciations (for exemple, 9 = o, oo, v) - some word are written with a space in the middle as if it was 2 words (it can be the case when the letters v/o/oo (9), r (,), d(>) are used) thx |

What's the difference in usage between the compound perfect "gofteh am" and the simple past "goftam"?

thank youAnother doubt: the word for "egg" is really "tokhme morgh"? Doesn't "morgh" mean "goat"? What is the logic there?

O yeah my mistake, I looked the wrong way in the dictionary, so does "tokhm" exist alone?
Some dictionaries say that "caviar" comes from a Persian word meaning "egg", but in modern Persian "khaviar" only means caviar. Did it mean "egg" in the past?

And what is the best way to say "I speak":
sohbat mikonam baladam harf zanam (or "mizanam"? - the "mi" is dropped in compound verbs right?)
