SIX NATIONS MATCHES TO BE PLAYED IN ROME OLYMPIC STADIUM

18:37 12 LUG 2011

(AGI) Rome - Italy will play its 2012 Six Nations rugby matches at the Olympic Stadium in Rome as announced by the Italian Rugby Federation, emphasizing that the decision was made "in agreement with CONI and the Municipality of Rome which will support the Federation in organizing these events." Italy will play England on the Saturday February 11th and Scotland on Saturday March 17th."After eleven years at the Flaminio Stadium, a location that has provided us with unforgettable moments, beginning with our debut against Scotland on February 5th 2000, bringing international rugby's most ancient and prestigious tournament to the most important venue in Italian sport," said the president of the federation, Giancarlo Dondi, "I wish to address a grateful thank you to CONI's president Gianni Petrucci and to the Mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, for working so hard to ensure that the next edition of the Six nations will be played at the Olympic Stadium and for guaranteeing their support. I am sure that all together we wil organize two wonderful events at a venue comparable to the great European rugby venues. Choosing the Olympic Stadium is an enthusiastic challenge for Italian rugby for 2012 and we hope that in years to come we will return to a Flaminio Stadium fully equipped for the requirements of the six nations." Season tickets will be on sale tomorrow . .

Does anyone have any pictures of the planned upgrade to the Flaminio Stadium or have any idea what they are planning to do with it?

It is still not know. According to the president of the Italian Rugby Federation, if the feedback from the fans will be positive they may think to relocate the matches to Olimpico permanently.

I was at that game, the atmosphere was awesome, one of the best crowds at any match I've been too.

It is a national shame

I was thinking that only ONE stadium in france could be NOW sheltered from climatic problems like freeze but it isn't even the case

A shame!!!!total shame!

Only one in France will be able to restore our dignity...guess where is it located? (15-20 minutes from my home)

Seriously i haven't seen a match cancelled in Germany during this period.

SDF conceptors committed an escroquery

If Stade de France wants to keep charging such high rent to their rugby and football tenants they better open their own wallet to get undersoil heating. Disgraceful for a world class stadium in the 21st century not to have undersoil heating.

Come on Axelillois ! All that story is only about a piece of grass !!
So, please, tell us (us french & others) where the so-called France's dignity was involved ????????????????? (I mean, please, don't make this unfortunate moment, a national stuff !!! .. if you don't mind !!! Anyway,... not to mention the fact that Rugby & Axel = 8,000,000,000,000,000,000,000..... rules... if not a single one...)

And about this rugby game fiasco.. here is what I wrote a couple of hours ago in the French forum (yeah, because unlike your "France dignity" stuff (said in front of your Lille TV screen), I payed two tickets for this bloody canceled-game) :

desperating man like you are everytime!

I repeat it is our national pride which is affected:

This freeze lasts for 2 weeks now and countries like UK or Germany .
None of them have cancelled a single match during this period.
Uk has an oceanic climate? But germany has a continental one more rude than our...

Then for the moment NONE stadiums in france is able to sustain a decent field.

Whatever you say the facts are there .the match is cancelled despite all efforts made during this week wheeas some people don't have enough money to heat correctly their houses in france

Even a specialist for meteo has been hired during this week to forecast all climatic evolutions for the SDF.

A shame!

It's not the fault of the referee to protect players. what is this crap system of heating at SDF?!

A waste of money.
Allianz arena is in a country that suffers this freeze. But yesterday Bayern played in its stadium.

i'm sorry but except Lille new one with his roof ,france will continue to be ridiculous in extreme winter periods if nothing is changed in the conception.
