Originally it was planned to be completed in 2007. But looks like the construction was way more complex than expected(even harder than the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing). I think the current schedule is to be finished it this year.

Reported by Guangzhou Newspaper last week, Zhu Xiaodan, the mayor of Guangzhou, said that Guangzhou still feels like a village town and the pollution problem is still serve. The green trees, plants and gardens in Guangzhou also need to improve.

He urged people to focus on the economic development and to make Guangzhou an urban city

“现在到很多地方看我们的城市，感觉就是到了一个乡镇。”昨日在广州市三年城市管理工作总结暨亚运城市行动——食品安全与环境整治动员大会上，市委书记朱小丹“毫不留情”地为广州城市管理挑刺，直指广告招牌杂乱已成视觉污染，强调要将精细化作为今后城市管理的着力点。

“成都主要街区的广告、招牌、橱窗、人行道、绿化，从精细化的角度来看，都比广州要强。”朱小丹特别拿成都的某一条街道来比较，“他们那条街道有农林路的几倍长，橱窗很多，但人家美轮美奂，很有艺术感，很有感染力，（而）我们的橱窗贴满了大字报。”说到此处，朱小丹顿了一顿说，“这就需要我们在精细化上下大功夫。”

科学城附近城中村穿衣戴帽

曾被汪洋称作代表广东未来的科学城，一直是各地高官政要来穗必去之所，然而，世界大观进入科学城路上的城中村一直是朱小丹的“心腹大患”。“那里一年内估计是拆不动的，你们到深圳学学，认真地找设计单位好好地搞搞城市设计，进行穿衣戴帽，全面地整治道路外立面，这样的工作希望能抓紧。”

提升东风路人行道绿化系统

朱小丹透露，广州最近要实行的新一轮机构改革，市容保洁的职能将随着环卫局归并到城市管理委员会，改完后城管这条线任务挺重的，但不管怎么归并怎么调整，一定不能弱化职能。朱小丹接着布置了第三个任务：由于选择的植物不当，东风路的人行道均存在露土现象，整个绿化系统要全面提升
