Lots of nice new terminals in Moscow but what about St Petersburg and some of the other cities in Russia. Nizhny Novgorod is in need of a new terminal and some direct flights to St Petersburg. Most new develoments in Russia appear to be very Moscow centric.

Returning to Vnukovo, I don't really understand the aspiration for setting "national" attribution of the Vnukovo-1 architectural concept. The only two features that existing building inherits from a previous variant are it's shape in plan and it's most basic volumetric layout, but that is all, though it is really important. Such situation is explained by optimality and necessity of maximum achievements on the existing territorial situation. Furthermore the architectural image of the building had changed appreciably, comparing to the predecessor. It naturally follows it's volume and planning layout, and directly leads to creation of a masterpiece of modern hi-tech honest architecture, where there is nothing superfluous.

St Petersburg really needs a new terminal, last summer i visited was too packed with people, and the architectural choice seems great, hope it will be realized soon!

I went through terminal D at SVO on Wednesday morning, the photos posted here make the terminal look much more impressive that it really is, you don't get any sense of space, it feels pretty small and rather cramped, it's probably because once you go through to the gate area the roof is fairly low (by air terminal standards), nowhere near as good as DME which is really nice, can't wait to see whay DME will be like when all the new terminal are completed.

That said, it is a vast improvement over the existing facilities.

KiwiRob, honestly i wouldnt say you cant feel the space in SVO-D, of course its not as airy as HKG or BKK, but i wont say it feels pretty small, but what is true is that its almost over its facilities, even its new. Thats why this project will be changed. From next year terminal D will be totally international, so clear zone will be all international and more vast. Domestic flights will be departing from terminal F right wing.

Also, connection between SVO-E and SVO-D is due to be completed and opened in early July, transition between SVO-E and SVO-F is already functioning.

SVO-E departure area, near gates

I agree SVO D doesn't feels small anyhow, well the "dome" area is impressive in any case, the rest is pretty nice though maybe at some point pictures make it look better indeed, still a huge improve and seems to work fine!

it would be nice to transit in one of these airports in the future...though a trip to Russia would only be possible if I make that trip specifically for Russia. Southeast Asia is quite distant from Russia.

Just a question, for airlines that transit in russian airports, from where do they fly from and where to they go to?

thestig.bisdak, Moscow SVO is going to turn itself into hub, but this hub will be served by Aeroflot+Skyteam partners, hub of a national carrier, like same as THAI or Cathay Pacific. The only international carrier that makes transit in Moscow is Singapore Airlines, they do flight Singapore - Moscow DME - Houston. I hope due to a vast development of all 3 airports, more interational carrers will come here and make Moscow a transit stop city. Geographically Moscow is quite good for that. And more and more new flights are opening here, because people fly more and more now.

It's good to see T-E awakening to live, with two or three flights a day to Astana und Almaty and one to Tallinn the new halls feel almost dead.
Welcome AF-KLM to your new home in Moscow!

New transition between terminals D and E at SVO was opened on saturday, now all 3 terminals are a common zone, you can travel between D-E-F and Aeroexpress train terminal with no need to go outside in the street. Soon common clear zone will be opened aswell.

New VKO A looks spacy and bright, it's a shame that the number to west european destinations is limited. Would be great if UTair had a regular service from Hamburg, Hannover or Berlin, I could use the UTair network to get to my destination with one ticket only.
