Hey Iggis, Terminal D looks very futuristic! I personally like the hall in which passport control takes place. But what's the function of the UFO you've posted in #271?

Tyron, it is the oldest building in SVO, it is now called Terminal B, it was built in 60s and previously called Terminal 1. Now it is used as a base for russian lowcost carrier Avianova. This UFO building is not a main terminal, its a boarding gallery, but only with bus gates, no aerobridges. Anyway, eventhough its so old, many of us love this architecture, even now it looks unusual and quite futuristic, like UFO )) But it will be demolished to the moment, when a huge Southern terminal complex will be built on this place.

You can see a masterplan (its not an architectural project), main terminal building with ATC Tower and 2 sattelite piers with underground connection

Moscow's airport to ban flights of noisy planes
Quote:
MOSCOW, Oct. 26 (PNA/Xinhua) -- Moscow's third-largest Vnukovo airport imposed noise restrictions starting March 2011, local Vedomosti business daily reported on Tuesday.

The restrictions will affect three types of Soviet-made aircraft, old-type TU-134, TU-154 and IL-86.

These old planes make up only about 10 to 15 percent of the fleet of the air companies which use Vnukovo airport, said Vitali Vantsev, first deputy general director of the airport.

Airport's management has been negotiating with companies about faster switch for newer types of the aircraft like SuperJet 100.

Soviet-made aircraft produce twice as much noise as the modern planes do. Middle-range Tu-134 is the most noisy plane in the world.

Vnukovo is located just about 10 km from the city and local residents suffer from ascending and descending planes' noise.
