Sheremetyevo has been included in a list of the best international airports

A delegation of Sheremetyevo International Airport headed by the director of Center for cooperation with airlines, Vladimir Hizhnyak, has taken part in the 17th World Route Development Forum. The forum had been taking place in Berlin, Germany from October 2nd to October 4th 2011, the airport’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

The representatives of Sheremetyevo have presented a new airport’s infrastructure connected with the Sheremetyevo’s strategic development plan as the largest aviation hub of Eastern Europe by the scope of passenger transportation and the quality of provided services. Sheremetyevo international airport has presented one of the forum’s most impressive stands with the area of 105 square meters. The aim of the installation is to show the scale and significance of changes in the infrastructure, which have been taking place at the airport since 2005. The stand has been drawn in white and orange colors symbolizing the purity, outspokenness, perfection and development. The key element of the stand was a hi-tech nest-doll, reflecting the philosophy of Sheremetyevo International Airport as the national air gates, which sees its development in the union of three key structures: airport, airlines-partners and passengers. The conceptual futuristic solution of the element demonstrates the Sheremetyevo airport’s looking in the future and commitment to the usage of state-of-the-art information technologies and innovations in its development.

The participation in Routes in 2011 is especially important for Sheremetyevo – the airport has been included in the short list of nominees for the prestigious award - Airport Marketing Awards. The largest airlines use this award to mark the best in their opinion airports of the world by the effectiveness of cooperation and quality of partner relations. «We thank our airline partners, which have appreciated our work and voted for us. This nomination shows that we have chosen a right path», - said director of Center for cooperation with airlines, Vladimir Hizhnyak.

Moscow Domodedovo airport will become more accessible for the automobilists

Reconstruction of highway connecting Domodedovo airport with Moscow has been started in 2011. It will allow Domodedovo airport to become more accessible for automobilists, the airport’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

The intensity of traffic on some segments of the road during days with peak loads significantly exceeds the calculate norm of 14 thousand of cars per day. The increase of traffic is connected with the dynamics of the airport – the passenger traffic has increased from 2,8 million in 2000 to 22,3 million in 2010.

The top-priority measures referring to problem parts will be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Transport in the next 3 years, in particular, the U-turn on the 1st kilometer of Kashirskoe shosse (highway) will be organized in 2011 and the traffic light near Razvilka settlement will be eliminated, since it is troubling access to Moscow.

In addition, it is planned to build four overground crosswalks in 2012 that will increase the driving speed on the highway and in 2013-2014 – a multi-level road interchange near the airport entry will be constructed, it will eliminate the jams, which form regularly on this section of the road. In accordance with the initiative of Moscow Domodedovo airport and instruction of Igor Levitin, declared at the meeting held on March 26th 2011, the possibility of reconstruction of multi-level road interchange near the exit in the direction of Molokovo settlement for provision of driving without traffic lights and elimination of traffic jams is also considered.

It will be hard to withstand the growth of load connected with the planned increase of passenger traffic and sport events like Sochi-2014 Olympics and Soccer World Cup – 2018 without increase of highway’s capacity. According to some forecasts, about 1.4 million of foreign tourists will visit Russia during the Cup and it will increase the passenger traffic of Domodedovo by 360 000 passengers in June 2018. Taking into account that 75% of passengers are using autos for transfer to Moscow, the additional load on the highway will be around 270 thousand people.

That is why, after completion of the first stage in 2014, the second stage must be started, which includes reconstruction of 5 road interchanges for achieving the driving speed of 110 km/h near the entry to the airport. It is also assumed to build a road connecting with M-4 “Don” highway, which will provide fast access to the airport from the south of Moscow Region. It is also planned to increase the number of lanes from 4 to 8 at the section from Vostryakovo to the airport, and from 4 to 6 – on the section from separation of Kashirskoe shosse (highway) to road interchange at Vostryakovo.

No jetway? And I am guessing the terminal next to it is terminal C? The more modern looking one.

Are they really that far away from D E and F? And what airlines use terminal B today? I know its all domestic terminal.

Its old and was built in 1950s, so no jetways. Its across landing strips from D,E,F and its connected with bus line with terminal E, they use airfield for driving. Until October SVO-B was used by Avianova lowcost and Belavia from Belarus, after bankrupcy of Avianova in the beginning of this month its used by Belavia only, its empty. And yes terminal C is orange one, its quite good, used by charter airline Nordwind now and few flights to Ukraine.

I guess so, Aeroflot has a wide strategy for development, in 5 years they plan to have over 200 planes, and it means there will be much more flights. Current terminals are already close to full capacity, so anyway for its development AFL needs more space.

I have heared that from next year on, some of the smaller russian Airlines that SU is taking over will supposedly use the northern complex. Plus, what about the planned expansion of the southern complex with a symmetrical copy of Terminal D? Would still make much more sense. After this has been built, I guess SVO would first run into runway than terminal capacity issues. The continued use of the northern terminals for Charter and Lowcost flights would make a lot of sense to me.

Anyway, pity that the old rundown part and the historical leftovers (the first control tower plus terminal building) will be demolished, still had a very soviet feel to it.

People mover is needed only if Nothern Complex will handle thousands of passengers, what for its needed now? For several flights? They have plans to build it, but only when 2 zones will function fully.
