Have to be in Moscow this week due to some family issues. Snatched up a nice ticket with KLM for $952.00 R/T with any reason insurance. Will be flying LAX-AMS-SVO. Will check out the new Terminal E. Never been there as a passenger.

Further airlines to change airports

According to lenta.ru, two more companies will move from Domodedovo to Vnukovo: Austrian and Swiss, both companies controlled by Lufthansa. There is no date mentioned. Guess from beginning of the winter schedule.
http://lenta.ru/news/2012/01/30/vnukovo/

Lenta also reported about Kuban Airlines changing from VKO to DME and ceasing a number of destinations served from Moscow: http://www.lenta.ru/news/2012/04/10/aero/

Is it true Transaero plans to transfer all flights to Vnukovo?

Well, actually there were rumors regarding SAS also ) I never heard of Austrian moving to VKO, but Swiss yes, there were in negotiations. But Swiss was the first foreign airline together with British Airways that moved to DME from SVO, hard to believe that they will change it now again. Even VKO has big new terminal, i think DME has more perspectives for grow and VKO is good as a second airport for flights, like LH did now. Anyway we'll see )

And Transaero will not move to VKO totally, they have announced that they will develop its route map from all 3 Moscow airports, and DME is anyway the main hub for them.

@ Iggis: LH seems to be willing to move all their flights sooner or later, so a move of OS and LX would make sense definitely. With TK being there already and SK being rumored as you say, VKO could even become the Star Alliance airport for Moscow in the long term.

Here's a nice story ;-) I live near Geneva and as I travelling to Moscow next May, I decided to reserve an Aeroflot flight from Zurich (2.5 hours by train from my town) as the ZRH-SVO flights used to be managed at the T-D (whereas the GVA-SVO arrived at the T-F). I was so excited to experience the T-D, especially after reading all the comments here and looking at the beautiful pictures. Then the bad surprise... Aeroflot called me to say that my ZRH-SVO-ZRH flights moved to T-F...
So... as I read that T-DEF are all connected both in the pre-border and in the clear zones, do you know if you can still check in at the common Aeroflot desks in T-D, pass the border control and then move to T-F? Or you have to check in in T-F and move in the clear zone, if you want to explore T-D? I admit that T-F also looks nice but it's a shame to have a flight at Sheremetyevo and miss that piece of architecture which T-D is...

Stefnic, i just couldnt understand, is it your story and do you need information yourself? Well if yes then i will tell ) You can check in only in the terminal that serves the flight, in your case T-F. After you check in and pass the border, you can walk and explore T-D,E and F, use any Duty Free shop and return back to F. Just take into consideration that it will take you around 10-15 min to reach Terminal D..

P.S. And really next May?? Its more than a year yet, or you meant this year?

Dreams Come True with Domodedovo
07.05.2012

Domodedovo Airport was the first one in Russia to accept Boeing 787 Dreamliner on a commercial basis

http://aviaforum.ru/showthread.php?t=17868&page=382

May 7, Moscow Domodedovo airport was the first one in Russia to accept a commercial flight of the state-of-art airliner Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The “dream liner”, owned by Japan Airlines (JAL), departed from Tokyo's Narita Airport at 10:45 local time and landed at the final destination – Domodedovo Airport - by 16:00 (Moscow time) on the same day. Time of start of commercial operation of Boeing 787 is unique in the Russian practice – it was the first time in modern history that a foreign-made aircraft makes regular commercial flights to a Russian airport just in six months after its commissioning.

The route Tokyo (Narita) - Moscow (Domodedovo) is one of the first routes, at which the newest aircraft made by U.S. aerospace giant is now operated. Moscow has become a priority direction due to the fact that both Domodedovo airport and JAL seek to provide their passengers with the most comfortable way to travel to Japan.

‘Domodedovo airport has historically established itself as an innovator in air transport: the first flights of IL-62 and the supersonic dream of the civil aviation, aircraft Tu-144, were made from this airport. Today the airport has brought to life a new dream, accepting the first commercial flight of Dreamliner,’ says Igor Borisov, Director of Domodedovo airport. ‘Arrival of a unique liner that was created with the help of revolutionary technology is just a continuation of half-a-century tradition in the field of advanced solutions.’

‘Today, Domodedovo - one of the largest airports in Russia and Europe – is to accept Dreamliner, performing its first commercial flight from Tokyo to Moscow. We congratulate our colleagues on this milestone event in the world of aviation,’ said Dmitry Khrol, Director of Public Relations of Boeing in Russia and the CIS countries.

The official welcoming ceremony for Boeing 787 will take place in Moscow Domodedovo Airport on May 17. It will bring together executives of JAL and Domodedovo airport, representatives of the Embassy of Japan, members of the tourism industry, as well as foreign and Russian media. The traditional waterbridge - a water bridge created by water flows let by two fire engines above the taxiing aircraft – promises to be the most spectacular part of the event.
