A think the descrease is for the lower demand in the winter season. A lot of ethnic passengers who usually visit Russia in summer.

Vnukovo International Airport is ready for autumn and winter months

In the Vnukovo Airport conference on the readiness for autumn and winter navigation 2012-2013 took place. The main report was made by the Deputy General Director of JSC "Vnukovo Airport" Sergei Solntsev.

First, he pointed out that many of projects within the framework of reconstruction and modernization of the airport have already been implemented or are in the final stage. For instance, for December 2012 it is scheduled to complete the reconstruction of the apron, adjacent to the terminal A, reconstruction works of the runway number 1 and its extension for 500 meters. At the same time, many projects are still to be done including the put into operation of the terminal A. In connection with these renovations some adjustments related to the specifics of the autumn and winter seasons have been made.

However, all planned activities to prepare the airport for the upcoming winter have been already completed. Thus, airfield pavements have been repaired, rutting and sags of the wheels on the chassis of aircraft stands have been eliminated, labeling on the runways, on the taxiways, on the aircraft taxi routes and traffic machinery have been updated. To prevent flooding during the rainy season and snowmelt gutters and drainage system of the airfield has been checked.

All special vehicles of the Vnukovo airport have been put through necessary maintenance checks and from now it passes to winter norms of fuel consumption.

More than 70 units of snowplows are ready to start on the runway. This is enough to ensure the operation of Vnukovo Airport during all these winter months, regardless of weather conditions. Tools that measure the friction coefficient on runaway have been prepared and activated, backup and emergency power systems have been tested. Like last year, management and related services of Vnukovo airport have paid close attention to the volume of reagents for the treatment of airfield pavements and their timely delivery.

Moreover, maintenance of machinery for handling aircraft by de-icing fluid has been conducted: by the beginning of the winter season ten special vehicles have been prepared. De-icing fluid for handling aircrafts has been also prepared in sufficient volume.

Airport has also organized practical staff training for the fire and rescue, search and rescue operations. New German evacuation equipment for small class aircrafts and business aviation has been purchased.

To improve the comfort of passengers staying at the airport, all necessary measures to maintain thermal conditions in terminals and to ensure the functioning of heating systems have been taken. Technical state of water supply, sewerage, ventilation and air conditioning systems has been checked.

Virgin loses out on Moscow route, Easyjet will fly to Moscow

Sir Richard Branson has lost out in another key transport battle.

The tycoon learned that his airline Virgin Atlantic had not been chosen by aviation regulators in a fight to operate UK to Moscow flights.

With more flights now available between the UK and Russia, British Airways, easyJet and Virgin had been vying for the right to fly on the London-Moscow route.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) decided that BA, which already operates to Moscow, and easyJet should be allowed to take up the Moscow flights - meaning that Virgin had missed out.

The decision follows the Department for Transport (Dft) ruling in August that FirstGroup rather than Virgin Rail should take up a new 13-year franchise on the West Coast Main Line. Sir Richard launched a legal challengers against the ruling and the DfT has now scrapped the West Coast bidding process, suspended three civil servants and asked Virgin to carry on for the time being.

The CAA's perming two-from-three decision came after what is known as a scarce capacity hearing at which a panel of CAA board members considered the arguments put forward by each of the applicant airlines.

The panel decided to allow BA to continue to operate the services it currently operates from London Heathrow to Moscow's Domodedovo Airport and to grant easyJet permission to operate between London Gatwick and Moscow Domodedovo.

Iain Osborne, the CAA's director of regulatory policy, and chairman of the panel, said: "On balance, allocating scarce capacity to BA and easyJet is likely to deliver the greatest benefit to consumers. EasyJet's proposal will introduce an innovative product into the market and has the potential to deliver the greatest dynamic fare benefits for consumers."

EasyJet said it would operate an Airbus A320 on two services a day between Gatwick and Moscow. Each aircraft will have 180 seats and the airline expects to fly more than 230,000 passengers in its first year of operations. EasyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the rights to fly between Gatwick and Moscow. We believe this is the right decision for consumers both in the UK and Russia."

A Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman said: "We are very disappointed with the result of the CAA hearing which we believe flies in the face of what the consumer wants and our economy demands. We are perplexed by what we consider a very short-sighted decision. We will review the CAA's report in full before considering all of our options."

Wow, that's disappointing. I know I'd rather be flying on Virgin than Easyjet.

Wow, from Moscow to Pardubice sounds nice, but connection everyday? is it even possible this route survive? there is just about 90 000 inhabitants, nothing special to see, just a small town. Maybe it will serve Prague as well since its only 1 hour by train and almost 50 minutes by car to Prague. Anyway this route is big surprise for me. We will see

First Le Сrobag cafe in Russia has opened at Vnukovo airport (31.10.2012)

On October 31 in clear zone of Vnukovo official opening of Le Crobag cafe (Le Crobag) took place. Representatives of Le Crobag and airport management took part in ceremony. As guests also representatives of the largest airlines that have flights through Vnukovo — Lufthansa, Transaero, Turkish Airlines and others also were invited.

«Next year we predict an airport passenger traffic about 17 million passengers, therefore cafe opening with the European level of service very pertinently. Now we are ready to accept passengers together with you» — the deputy director general on production of JSC Vnukovo Airport Mikhail Greydin congratulated representatives of Le Crobag and wished successes and prosperity.

«For us it is a big step forward, and special value is that fact that first Le Crobag cafe in Russia opened in Vnukovo new passenger terminal. I hope that its design and authentic products from France will allow passengers to feel the atmosphere of the real Parisian cafes» — the managing director of the Le Crobag company Jens Bartolatus told.

«Vnukovo has remarkable prospects of development and potential in involvement of passengers. This is a place where such cafe should open — the director general of JSC Rex Trading — the partner franchisee of Le Crobag in Moscow — Evgeny Vasilyev in turn noted.

Le Crobag was founded in Hamburg in 1981. First cafe which has opened at the railway station of this German city had no extensive range and offered visitors only five options. But soon won popularity among inhabitants and guests of Hamburg.

The success was stunning and very soon brand of "Le Crobag" became known through all country. Today this cafe can be found already in 120 cities of Germany and also in Austria, Poland and Switzerland. Here it is possible to try croissants, baguettes, sandwiches, salads and cakes. By the way, the word "crobag" is translated as an abbreviation of the words "croissant" and "baguette".

And now top management made a decision to enter Russian market. Currently the cafe opened only in a domestic clear zone but at the beginning of 2013 second Le Crobag cafe will be opened — for the passengers who are flying abroad.
