Skype-kiosks appeared at Sheremetyevo's Aeroexpress Terminal

Aeroexpress offers an innovative solution for those who like to stay connected with their family and friends - Skype-kiosks appeared at Aeroexpress Sheremetyevo Terminal, allowing to make free video calls.

Using the kiosk is very easy: just log into your Skype account and make calls the same way as on a PC. Particular attention is paid to the creation of kiosk to be safe. A specially designed interactive floor recognizes the presence of man, and as soon as he leaves the cabin communication session is automatically terminated and all connections are terminated.

New stalls are not only convenient, but also have attractive design. Performed in a futuristic style, inside they feature a range of interactive features, which make using the kiosk an entertainment. The project to install Skype-kiosks in Aeroexpress terminal at Sheremetyevo Airport became a pilot project for Russia, these kiosks can be found only at Tallinn Airport. Extremely important for us to provide our passengers the most relevant technology to their journey with "Aeroexpress" as comfortable as possible - says spokesman of "Aeroexpress" Nadezhda Dorzhieva. - We believe that Skype-kiosks will become very popular due to the lack of roaming charges and the possibility to make free calls around the world. Sheremetyevo International Airport named the best European airport in passenger service quality

Sheremetyevo wins ACI's airport quality award

Today, on March 12, 2013 an annual press conference of Mikhail Vasilenko, General Director of Sheremetyevo International Airport, has been held, dedicated to the results of year 2012 and prospective plans for the airport development.

The press conference began with announcement of results on Sheremetyevo Airport participation in ACI ASQ, an independent and the most prestigious research programmes on Airport Service Quality, which were presented by Olivier Jankovec, General Director of ACI Europe, during TV link-up from ACI Europe Headquarters from Brussels.

According to the results of Airport Service Quality research program of ACI Sheremetyevo International Airport was recognized as the best European airport in service quality and took the leading position in European region.
Sheremetyevo Airport became the first Russian airport which was awarded with the top position of honour in this independent ASQ rating and received worldwide recognition among passengers and experts. Olivier Jankovec, General Director of ACI Europe, noted particularly that Sheremetyevo Airport keeps the considerable passenger traffic increase and high service quality harmony, which is an evidence of the management and personnel commitment to the companys strategic goals in passenger service quality and satisfaction.

Recall that participation of Sheremetyevo Airport in ASQ programme commenced in the second quarter of year 2010 and already according to the results of year 2011 the airport was among the top ten European airports.
During the press conference M.M. Vasilenko, General Director of Sheremetyevo Airport, said: Six years ago we have set an unprecedented goal for Russian airports - to be the best airport in service quality in Europe in 2015. Despite external and internal difficulties the management and the team showed a high professionalism, dedication and reached new heights in the three years ahead of schedule.

M.M. Vasilenko announced the performance results of year 2012. It was noted that the airport fulfilled its plan for 2012 in all key performance indicators. Moreover Sheremetyevo Airport achieved more record-breaking indicators passenger traffic has been increased by 16.1% and equaled to 26 million 188 thousand passengers. Number of takeoff and landing operations has been increased by 8.6% and achieved level of 228.8 thousand of takeoff and landing operations. Moreover the flights punctuality was maintained at a high level and amounted for 89.1%, which is of a prime importance for the scheduled transfer of passengers in a timely manner. It is planned that in 2013 passenger traffic in Sheremetyevo Airport will continue to increase and quantity of passengers received services will amount for 29 million people.

Revenue for year 2012 reached 15.182 billion rubles which is 66% more than in 2011, and earnings from non-aviation activities amounted for 6.238 billion rubles (81% more than in 2011). One of the strategic projects for year 2013 is construction of the third separate runway (R-3). According to the Government contract the construction is to be completed at the end of year 2015. On August 28, 2012 the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) issued a permission for construction of the third runway (R-3) at Sheremetyevo International Airport to Federal State Unitary Enterprise Administration of Civil Airports (airdromes) (FSUE ACA(a). FSUE ACA(a) acts as a Customer-Developer of works under this project. Closed Joint Stock Company Engineering Corporation Transstroy acts as a Contractor under this project.

R-3 construction will allow us to provide comprehensive strategic development of the national air carrier Aeroflot-RA and other airlines which are partners of Sheremetyevo Airport, as well as to increase annual passenger service capacity up to 65 mln people by 2030 and to balance passenger terminals capacity with Sheremetyevo airdrome capacity. In 2013 a number of preparatory measures will be implemented to ensure airports availability for extensive servicing of passengers and guests of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014. These measures are implemented in cooperation with Autonomous Non-profit Organization Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Autonomous Non-profit Organization OlympicGamesTransportDirectorate and OJSC Aeroflot-RA. And for these purposes it is continued to improve airport availability for all passenger categories, including passengers with reduced mobility.

One of the major projects of Sheremetyevo Airport is development of the North Terminal Complex involving construction of a terminal of 40 million passengers capacity. This is specified in the Sheremetyevo Airport Master plan developed till 2030. The first phase of the new complex with capacity of 10 million passengers will be located instead of Terminal B. In this sector an exit from the subway is designed which will connect the South and the North sectors of the airport. Construction of the subway and the new passenger terminal is planned to be completed together with R-3 construction completion in 2015. The Subway construction will be carried out on terms of Public and Private Partnership.

This spring a new corporate uniform for personnel servicing airports passengers and guests will be introduced in Sheremetyevo Airport. The uniform was designed by Denis Simachev, a famous Russian fashion designer. The new uniform embodies principles of actual airport image modern, practical, harmonic and open hub. It is designed as a part of brand image renewal for the state airport of Russia and its capital. Sheremetyevo International Airport the largest Russian airport handling international flights.

The Russian Federation represented by the Federal Agency for State Property Management (83,04%) is the major shareholder of JSC MASH. Moreover the airport cooperates with the leading air carriers of CIS and Baltic countries.

According to the results of 2012 Sheremetyevo Airport passenger traffic amounted to 26mln 188thous. people, which is 16.1% more than in 2011. According to the annual rating prepared by Skytrax Research Company (UK), Sheremetyevo International Airport belongs to the top three of the East European airports offering the best service quality.

Given the fact that Kyiv-Moscow is being served already by Ukraine International Airlines (SVO and DME both 3 daily, and planing to open VKO daily), S7 (daily and I believe it will be 2 daily), TransAero (DME and VKO both 2 or 3 daily), UTair (daily) and adding 2 more daily flights by Aeroflot - I believe it can become the busiest route in Eastern Europe.

Aeroexpress trains to Vnukovo to go more frequently

Starting from April 1, 2013 Aeroexpress company introduces changes into the schedule of the trains running between Kievskiy railway station and Vnukovo airport of Moscow.
In accordance with the new schedule the number of runs for this direction will be increased up to 42. To be added are the trains leaving Kievskiy railway station at 15-30, 17-30, 19-30 and leaving Vnukovo airport at 13-00, 16-30, 18-30. The 6 additional runs provided will enable to reduce traffic intervals for the route up to 30 minutes. Introduction of additional runs became possible due to the contribution of "Russian Railways".
'Increased number of runs for the ' Kievskiy railway station to Vnukovo airport' route is a natural measure first and foremost destined to address the constant growth of passenger flow in this direction. Sheremetyevo to Build New $200 Mln Terminal

Moscow’s Sheremetyevo international airport plans to build a new $200 million terminal to replace its Soviet-era Terminal B facility, Sheremetyevo CEO Mikhail Vasilenko said on Tuesday. Terminal B, previously known as Sheremetyevo 1, was built in 1964 and has a capacity of 4 million passengers a year. The terminal had been the base facility for the Avianova budget airline, which ceased operations in 2011. The terminal currently does not handle passengers.

“A new terminal will appear on the site of terminal B. A major reconstruction is also possible,” Vasilenko said.
Sheremetyevo also plans to build a new tunnel to connect the airport’s northern and southern flight zones. The project to build a terminal and tunnel is estimated at $350-370 million, with the tunnel alone to cost $100-150 million, he said.

Sheremetyevo is currently holding talks with potential investors, Vasilenko said, adding the tunnel will be funded by a state and private partnership. He declined to specify what size Sheremetyevo would have in the project or name potential investors. The government has already allocated 1.5 billion rubles ($50 million) for the initial stage of the tunnel's construction, he said.
The new terminal and tunnel are expected to come into service by the time Sheremetyevo completes construction of a new third runway approximately in 2015, he said.

Vnukovo boosts capacity

Vnukovo, the smallest of Moscow’s three major airports, considerably expanded its passenger capacity with the opening of a new terminal in December 2012. Construction of Terminal A had begun in 2006 as part of a large-scale program to modernize Vnukovo. At a cost of 44 billion rubles (around $1.4 billion), the program was financed by the Moscow city administration, which is the airport’s largest shareholder, as well as by private investors.

Terminal A became partially operational in July 2010; on December 18, 2012, its capacity was expanded by an additional 96,000 square meters to reach the planned 270,000 square meters. The number of check-in counters grew from 104 to 154. The new five-level terminal now has a total of 52 boarding gates, 31 of them equipped with boarding bridges. There are two double-bridge gates to service Boeing 747 widebodies and one triple-bridge gate for Airbus A380s.

The completion of the new terminal indicates Vnukovo’s aspiration to compete with the other two major Moscow airports, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, which currently surpass it in the number of passengers served. Domodedovo, Russia’s largest airport, handled 28.2 million passengers in 2012 while Sheremetyevo served 26.2 million. Vnukovo handled slightly over 10 million passengers last year, coming fourth in the country’s airport ranking behind its two Moscow rivals and St Petersburg’s Pulkovo (11.2 million).

Together with the existing two smaller terminals (В and D), the newly opened terminal at Vnukovo brings the airport’s annual capacity to 30 million passengers. According to chairman of the Vnukovo board Vitaly Vantsev, the airport expects to serve 15-17 million passengers in 2013. Vantsev says UTair Aviation flights currently account for more than 60% of all passenger traffic at Vnukovo, but that the airport has also attracted the interest of such major carriers as Russia’s Transaero Airlines, Lufthansa, and Turkish Airlines.

UTair head Andrey Martirosov says the carrier will avail of Vnukovo’s increased passenger capacity in order to expand its route network from Moscow. Transaero, Russia’s second largest carrier, first came to Vnukovo in March 2012. It also operates from Domodedovo and Shere*metyevo. CEO Olga Pleshakova says Transaero will move its Boeing 747 flights to New York and Miami, which are currently performed from Domodedovo, to Vnukovo’s Terminal A. In January 2013, Transaero launched Boeing 777 flights between the new Vnukovo terminal and Paris Orly, the route previously operated by the airline’s single-aisle Boeing 737s. In March 2013 Transaero is planning to introduce new flights to some European and CIS destinations from Terminal A, Pleshakova says. UTair and Transaero have recently signed an interline agreement to share transit passengers in the new terminal.

Lufthansa started to move its flights from Domodedovo to Vnukovo in March 2012. As of early November last year, the airline had carried 200,000 passengers between Vnukovo and Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, and Berlin. The German carrier is turning Vnukovo into a base for its Star Alliance partners like Turkish Airlines, which came to that airport in March 2012. Star Alliance has no other options to choose from since the other two major Moscow airports are already taken by the rival alliances. SkyTeam is represented in Sheremetyevo, the home airport of Aeroflot, while oneworld carriers are concentrated in Domodedovo, where the alliance’s Russian member S7 Airlines operates from. Sky Alliance has no Russian partner so far, but UTair is considered to be a possible candidate.

In the meantime, Vnukovo is intent on continuing its modernization efforts. One of the airport’s two crossing runways will become fully operational again in March 2013 after repair work. As part of the plan to consolidate its airport assets, the Russian government aims to create a single managing company by mid-2013 that would operate both Vnukovo and another government-owned airport, Sheremetyevo.

That's great news from both airports. Can anyone tell us a website or pictures of the new airport (SVO) once the new terminal and runway are built?

Three double-bridge gates… Two double-bridge are on domestic side of the terminal A (gates 14, 15) and one double-bridge plus one triple-bridge on international side (gates 22, 23).

Terminal D does not serve any departures, only some domestic arrivals. It will be demolished to free space for the second phase of terminal A.
