Sheremetyevo airport selects partner for northern terminal reconstruction

Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport has chosen Arkady Rotenberg’s TPS Avia Group to finance the reconstruction of its northern terminals.

According to TPS Avia Group, the company and airport will create the joint ventures to fulfill the project’s northern part of the airport. These include constructing a new terminal for 15 million passengers to replace Terminal B, a new cargo terminal handling 500,000 tons per year, a third fuel complex and a tunnel connecting the southern and northern parts of the airport. Currently, the two parts are disconnected and it is possible to reach northern terminals only by car or bus from the southern part.

Sheremetyevo CEO Mikhail Vasilenko estimated the cost of the new projects to be as much as $370 million, but the airport did not disclose finance details.

Reconstruction of the northern terminals is one of the airport’s main strategic projects. It is expected the northern part will be able to handle 40 million passengers by 2030.

Initially, Vasilenko said four companies—including VTB Capital Co., Oleg Deripaska’s Transstroy Corp., Arkady Rotenberg’s TPS Avia Group and Airport Koltsovo—had applied for the tender, but the airport received proposals from only TPS Avia Group and Airport Koltsovo.

Terminal D is only 172,000 m2, so this terminal will be about 5-4 times larger than Terminal D.
