These are not either/or propositions. Sukhoi BJ is on offer (although they show no lie-flat seats):

Superjet 100 is about the size of DC-9, Boeing 717 or Fokker 100. Is a lie-flat J class competitive?

98 seats.
Oh yes... especially for long-haul (transcontinental) journeys. But, I think it may be better classified as a regional aircraft (given its range). Lie flat seats for J class can really add a notch of comfort for passengers traveling long distances.

And 98 seats isn't that bad... but what the seat pitch?

Sure. Especially remember trans which continent! PKC-LED, for example, is 6655 km by great circle.

That'll be a nice nonstop service with lie-flat seats. How many of those can fit that aircraft though?

Well, Fokker 100 is slightly bigger than Superjet. Something like 107 economy seats.
When discussing options of Fokker 100 Executive Jets, Fokker suggested that a Fokker 100 could be filled with 56 business class recliner seats (14 rows at 4 abreast), or 21 sleeper seats (7 rows at 3 abreast) or anything in between.
So 18 sleeper beds is certainly possible. Probably 21, too. A318 can have 136 or so seats, so 23 rows, yet BA fits 32 seats (8 rows) on transatlantic A318. So a Superjet with 7 rows of sleepers would fit... but can a sleeper bed fit 4 abreast, or just 3?

Basically like, if we do all-Y, it would be 24 rows of 4 abreast, correct? If that's the case...

Recliners:
- J8 (2-2), Y80 (2-2)
- J12 (2-2), Y72 (2-2)

Lie-Flat:
- J4 (1-1), Y76 (2-2)
- J8 (2-2), Y76 (2-2)

Incorrect!

Economy class on Superjet is 5 abreast.

If that's the case, we could consider the following:

Recliner:
- J8 (2-2), Y85 (2-3)
- J15 (2-3), Y75 (2-3)

Lie-Flat:
- J6 (1-2), Y85 (2-3)
- J8 (2-2), Y80 (2-3)
- J12 (1-2), Y70 (2-3)

No, we cannot. If 17 rows of economy seats leave space for 2 rows of business recliners, then how can 2 rows of sleepers fit in the same space?

Hmmm... that's a good question. If you were to configure the seating layout for the SSJ-100-95, how would you do it? I mean, nowadays, other short- and medium-haul aircraft are now seeing such lie-flat seats on board J class (e.g. A320)...

Well, it depends on the demand for economy, business and first class on the route. And the range of the plane at that load.

These 98 seats are 19 rows of 5 abreast, plus 3 seats in first row. Namely the front doors are not opposed: the main entry door on the left is further behind, and the right hand (service and evacuation) door is further in front. This allows half a row on the right side, and with aisle on the left, the 3 seat half. Like Armavia, the first:
http://superjet.wikidot.com/wiki:pass-cabin-layouts
That extra half row can be and often is not used, placing a galley at the space instead. So on Aeroflot, that has 87 seats in 18 rows: 3 rows of business recliners at 4 abreast and 15 rows of coach at 5 abreast.
Yakutia has 93 seats in 19 rows - 2 business (8 seats), 17 coach (85 seats)

So, how΄d I do it?

For example, 6 first class sleeper seats at 3 abreast (2 rows). Then 16 business class recliners at 4 abreast (4 rows). Leaving space for 50 coach seats at 5 abreast (10 rows).
How΄d you like 72 seats at 50Y16J6F?

Also, can somebody please rename this thread into SUKHOI | SSJ100 News & Discussion? I've asked two mods like a month ago and both ignored me)

if only I'm allowed to do it, I could... Yet I'm not a mod for this section. I've already sent a request for a thread name change to a Supermod, yet no response. I'll take it to an admin tonight.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 achieves CAT IIIa ICAO certification
Russia’s Interstate Aviation Committee has granted CAT IIIa ICAO certification to the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) to execute automatic landings. The supplemental type certificate allows the SSJ100 to land under tough weather conditions with low visibility below 175 meters, including landing with up to 10 meters per second flank wind.

According to the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co., the SSJ100 successfully performed a wide range of landing tests—using all combinations of operating weights and centers of gravity, with simulation of crucial engine failure at different segments of descent path and at stiff wind.

The test program took place from November 2011 through December 2013. Testing exceeded 250 hours and involved three test aircraft, which performed 425 automatic approaches.

According to a company statement, in July 2013 a test SSJ100 touched the runway with its landing gear retracted during a test flight at Iceland’s Reykjavik Keflavik Airport. There were five people on board—three crew members and two certification center experts. One of the experts injured a leg during the evacuation.
