Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) and an Indonesian regional carrier Kartika Airlines have finalized an order for 30 SSJ100/95B aircraft. The deal is valued at 951mln. USD at current list prices.

The contract signed by the president of SCAC Vladimir Prishyazhnyuk and the CEO of Kartika Mr. Kim Johanes Mulia confirms the earlier intention of Kartika to buy SSJ100 jetliners. The Heads of Agreement announced in Jakarta in December 2008 included 15 aircraft and 15 as an option. The document sealed today incorporates all 30 aircraft as a firm order with the delivery schedule planned for 2012-2015.

“Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a perfect tool to bridge the market gap on regional capacity as major Indonesian carriers are focused on large single aisle aircraft. With this new right-sized aircraft we can develop and serve more point-to-point destinations with obvious operational efficiency and unsurpassed comfort for passengers” - stated the CEO of Kartika Mr. Kim Johanes Mulia Jiauw.

«I welcome aboard our first South East Asia customer – Kartika Airlines. This deal is a new chapter in the Sukhoi Superjet 100 Program. It’s a real milestone in achievement of our strategic goal to take a solid position in the South East Asia market. Indonesia is a country with robust GDP growth, geography and demography ideal for air transportation. I strongly believe that Kartika’s experience in flying SSJ100 will pave the way to new orders coming from the region”, - said the President of SCAC Vladimir Prishyazhnyuk, commenting the deal.

Sukhoi gets Superjet order from Thailand

FARNBOROUGH/MOSCOW July 20 (Reuters) - Sukhoi (UNAC.RTS) said it had won an order for 12 Superjet 100 planes, while its chief executive said the Russian planemaker was on track to deliver its first jet to customers by the end of this year.

The Superjet 100 will be the first passenger plane built by Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union, and will attempt to challenge market leaders Airbus (EAD.PA) and Boeing (BA.N) in the regional carrier sector.

Sukhoi, which is making the planes with Italian group Finmeccanica (SIFI.MI), said on its web site on Tuesday it would sell 12 of the regional planes to privately owned Orient Thai Airlines with an option for 12 more.

It did not give detail on price, but on Monday the company announced a 30-plane deal with Indonesian group Kartika for $951 million. [ID:nLDE66I071]

Sukhoi chief executive Mikhail Pogosyan told reporters at the Farnborough Airshow the company had a firm backlog of 131 domestic and international orders for the Superjet 100 and that 70 percent of testing was complete.

He reiterated an earlier target to make first deliveries to customers by the end of 2010. The project has been hit by a string of delays since the plane's maiden flight in 2008.

Sukhoi is the part of state-controlled United Aviation Corp (UAC) (UNAC.RTS), more famous for military aircraft, but Pogosyan said the Superjet programme was of similar importance to the construction of fighter jets.

Sukhoi said the order with Orient Thai Airlines, which has 15 planes, would be delivered from 2011-14. (Reporting by Ben Berkowitz and John Bowker; Editing by Dmitry Sergeyev and Dan Lalor)

Russian-built Superjet 100 causes a buzz at airshow

Russia's attempts to join industry big boys Airbus and Boeing in the aircraft market were given a boost this week at the Farnborough Air Show.

Russian aircraft builder Sukhoi received a breakthrough order from Indonesia's Kartika Airlines, which ordered 30 of its Russian-built Superjet 100s on July 19.

On July 20, Orient-Thai Airlines announced that it would buy at least 12 of the aircraft, which can seat between 75 and 95 passengers.

Michelin Exclusive Tyre Supplier for Sukhoi Regional Jet

Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has signed a contract with Michelin for the exclusive supply of radial aircraft tyres for its latest major project, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 family of regional airliners. The deal was announced at Michelin’s stand during the Farnborough Airshow 2010.

The Sukhoi Superjet first took to the air in prototype form in May 2008, fitted with Michelin’s Air-X radials. As of July 22, 2010, all three prototypes involved in certification flight tests have accumulated over 1800 flying hours, equalling about 70 per cent of the overall certification programme. Sales of the Superjet 100 are already underway and 18 aircraft are in production. The manufacturer intends to make the first deliveries to the airlines Aeroflot and Armavia by the end of 2010.

Superjet Engine Certified After Fake Diploma Flap

Russia has certified engines for its Sukhoi Superjet 100 planes, bringing the first deliveries of the much-delayed aircraft a step closer, engine producer Saturn announced Friday.

The Superjet 100, which risked an additional setback last month when prosecutors reported that dozens of workers at the plane's Far East plant had fake diplomas, will be the first passenger plane built by Russia since the Soviet collapse, and will attempt to challenge Canada's Bombardier and Brazil's Embraer in the regional carrier sector.

The manufacturer, controlled by state-run Sukhoi and 25 percent owned by Italy's Finmeccanica, has postponed airplane deliveries to early customers several times, and sources familiar with the production program said the problem lay in engine certification.

The jet engine, designed by a joint venture between Saturn and a subsidiary of France's Safran, must get additional Federal Aviation Administration certification to be sold in the United States and Canada, said Yury Basyuk, deputy managing director of Saturn.

Superjet plans to produce 1,000 planes primarily aimed at international markets, and the plane itself may be certified as early as October 2010, Basyuk said.

Aeroflot, which accounts for 30 of the 161 orders to date, and Armenia's Armavia are most likely to receive the first aircraft.

A cloud was cast over the Superjet 100 in July when Khabarovsk region prosecutors said more than 70 engineers working at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant, which produces the plane, had fake diplomas from a local technical college, Ren-TV television reported.

The employees said the diplomas were only a formality because they had worked at the plant for years and knew their jobs from experience, NTV television reported.

Plant management said no engineers with fake diplomas were employed in actual plane production.

No employees were fired over the incident because their contracts did not permit dismissal for minor offenses, Ren-TV said. Fake diplomas are widely available for sale in Russia.

Armavia Superjet conducts first revenue flight

Armavia's first Sukhoi Superjet 100 has performed its maiden revenue flight, only two days after delivery to the operator, marking the formal entry of the twinjet type into commercial service.

It flew from Yerevan Zvartnots to Moscow Sheremetyevo early today, carrying 90 passengers on board, as flight U8508.

Armavia's Superjet landed at 04:45, after a flight lasting some 2h 55min, arriving at Sheremetyevo's Terminal C. The aircraft replaced a larger Airbus A319 on the route.

Sukhoi says it will deliver 14 Superjets this year, mostly to Aeroflot, but Yakutia might also receive one by the year-end, according to United Aircraft president Mikhail Pogosyan.

wow nice little plane ... it sure would be a competitor for embrear from Brazil and the smaller carries ... but how fuel efficient is it? how quiet are it's engines? ... it needs at least two more emergency doors from my point of view... but anyways i like the plane and the fact that there is another competitor on the market!!! ... well done Russia!!!
