Chittagong - Cityscapes and Landmarks - Part 2
The old Chittagong Cityscapes and Landmarks thread has reached 500 posts so I thought it as good an excuse as any to start a new one.* Will begin with some of the nicer photos in old thread.* A few of the more significant buildings to start with (1st pic - Sobuj Chowdhury, 2nd pic - photographer unknown; 3rd pic - Jashim Salem; 4th pic - B M Magid; 5th pic - Faisal Akram; 6th pic Azimal Baber; 7th pic - photographer unknown).
Also, here is the link to the first Chittagong Cityscapes and Landmarks thread http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=136288 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks Tareq - credit to the photographers (including our own Mirza and Dhakaiya) and to Tmac's scavenging of course. I'll sort and add a few more later...it's incredible the amount of time it takes to go through all those old photos!

Some cityscapes from the old thread (the first shows the commercial district; in the second one can see Chittagong Tower in the upper left and Hamedia Taj (Chandanpura) Mosque at lower left; and in the third the Circuit House and stadium are visible in the distance):

[QUOTE=tanzirian;33573416]Kafco Colony Mosque:
First time I've seen anything inside KAFCO. It is a protected area I imagine. Do the other buildings also have a similar ceramic brick scheme?

There are low hills around...look at backgrounds of first and third pics of post 8 you can see that it is not flat. And Foy's Lake which is essentially within the city itself nowadays is bordered by low hills. Now, there were never very high hills within the city itself...highest in the area is Batali Hill which is 280 ft tall. Also, many hills have been flattened or shortened in the last few decades as the earth was used in construction.

Great pics.. I have never been to Chittagong city Can someone compare and contrast Chittagong in relation to Dhaka? Outside of the usual skyscraper stuff, are there many good restaurants, malls, private universities etc? Is the boom over there in the same scale as Dhaka since late 90s?

malls, AFAIK, Sanmar Ocean City is the best, picture is up there. There are few good restaurants (theres Pizza Hut and a place called Best food or sumthin), the boom in Chittagong city is bit slower than Dhaka i would say, the city needs more developments especially infrastructural developments .....the traffic jams are crazy like Dhaka.
