Even though red line commuter to Taling Chan has been suspended, MOT permanent secretariat now asking SRT to allow MRTA to lease the space to connect Bang Son station of Purple line with bang Son station of Red line commuter to allow those wheelchair ridden such as the handicapped and the senior citizens and pregnant ladies to make a connection with red line commuter -
BTW, the EIA on Rangsit - Thammasart Rangsit extension of red line commuter now get an EIA clearance

For the issue of the connection between red line commuter and Purple line at Bangson, it needs 24 million Baht budget and MRTA must pay the lease on SRT land to realize such a connection
and make a joint commercial on railway land around Bang Son station --- For the issue of Contract 3 (Electrification + EMU), the contract will be signed in May 2015 to be done in 2019 ---
http://www.prachachat.net/news_detai...sid=1424841698

Once Bangsue Central has been opened and Purple line service has been opened, the Diesel railcar service to Talingchan and Beyond will be revived as a temporary measure before the electrification for red line commuter has been done in 2019

the fast speed is due to the construction in advance by ITD since they know that Big Too cabinet will approved 8.14 billion Baht fund to cover the 4th track
However, the bone of contention between those who live in Thaninthorn village and prempracha school area remain since the U-turn ITD is construction is just for automobile which those pedestrians and those who ride bicycle would not get the benefit.

During the public hearing at Amari Airport Hotel on 27 Feb 2015, SRT has to make a settlement with the local people in Thaninthorn village and prempracha school area by building the new flyover to replace the Kaset Udomphan flyover which has been constructed since 1959 but to be demolished to make the way for red line commuter ramp from Donmueang to Lak Hok - alogn with bicycle lanes to allow bicycles to go around ...

Even there the proposal for 10 km extension of red line commuter from Rangsit to Thammasart Rangsit now under EIA, there is a demand for 5 more kilometer to extend red line commuter from Thammasart rangsit to Nava nakhon Industrial estate to bring myriads of workers (Thai and those from neighbor countries) in Donmueang / Rangsit / White House village (Klong 1) to Nava Nakhon industrial estate

Still, there is a concern that the construction debris have clogged the drainage - can cause another round of Flood like the Great Flood of 2011.

Issue of Natha station at km 617 + 600 (3.5 km from Nong Khai station at km 621 + 100) to be cargo stations for Nong Khai -
Big Pok is going to set up Special Economic Zone in Nong Khai since it would be too late to wait until Thai - China railway has become a reality
Big Pok also takes a look at the proposed site for the new railway bridge across Mekhong as well as the place to construct container yard and distribution center at Natha station

Industrial estate will be at Sa Krai district and the need to settlement on real estate issue between Nong Khai and Udonthani to prevent unnecessary competition -

Special economic zone will cover 12 communes in Mueang district, 1 commune in Sa Krai district, 3 communes in Phone Phisai district, 3 communes in Tha Bo district and 3 communes in Sri Chiang Mai with the area of 559614 rai - already allocate 5417 rai of 8 land plots for special economic zone with wholesale and retails along with cross border and logistic.

Still wait for the readiness of Lao government to run cross border cargo train- along with the issue of Thai - China railway and the new railway Bridge across Mekhong

Poles erected at the center of the track to define 50 meter limit for each side - now the poles has reached Kasi district ... while Udomxay need lots of tunnels - need at least 76 tunnels and 36 stations along 417 km route from Boten to Viengchan capital

So what is going on with the SRT dark/light red lines? Why is electrification taking so long?

Bidding for electrification has a mean price of 27-29 billion Baht but Hitachi - Sumitomo (the winner by default due to other bidder has been disqualified) asking for 49 billion Baht which is totally unacceptable and SRT is in dilemma as the project has been delayed after getting JICA loan in 2009 due to the bargaining with the bidder winners.

Cost overrun on Contract 3 - SRT has no choice but to ask 4.6 billion Baht more to deal with Electrification and EMU to enable to opened red line commuter in 2019 despite of ability to cut the bidding on contract 3 from 49 billion Baht to 33 -35 billion Baht
Transportation Co. Ltd. still reluctant to move out as they need 10-15 rai near Bangsue Central for some intercity buses and vans to stay while Big Jin telling Transportation Co. Ltd. to find the new place as Mueang Thong Thani and Donmueang have been found unsuitable

Fight to the bitter end to get North - Isan railway via Phetchabun (Lam Narai - Phetchabun - Lom Sak - Loei - Nong Bua Lamphu with extension to Laos via Tha Lee district) vs North - Isan railway via Chaiyaphum (Chaturat - Chaiyaphum - Loei - Nong Bua Lamphu) as Governor of Phetchabun, Mayor of Phetchabun town, Phetchabun chamber of commerce, along with PAOs and TAOs of Phetchabut throwing full support for North - Isan railway via Phetchabun (Lam Narai - Phetchabun - Loei - Nong Bua Lamphu) to the bitter end as both tourist railways to Nam Nao national park and Kho Khor national park which has 1.7 million tourists a year as well as cargo railway to serve almost a million of Phetchabun people by transporting sweet Tamarind, rice, Maize at 700 tons a day, Cabbage, tobacco leaves, sugar canes [should be refined sugar], Ginger in container boxes to feed Bangkokians and other Thai people down South along with the exports - not to mention about crude oil from 3 oil pits at 3000 barrels a day to feed Thai oil refinery and construction materials [cement from Siam Cement factory at Ban Chong Tai, stone, quarry, steel bars, steel rods]. The have waited for this line since 1944 though.

The critical issue is the section from Lom Sak to Loei that need to pass reserved forest - For the route in parallel with Highway 21 should be on the western side of Highway 21 which has no problem on land exappropriation rather than the eastern side of Highway 21 and connection to Maesod - Mukdahan railway line.

Not to be outdone by Phetchabun people, Chaiyaphum people led by Mr Montri Chaleekruea (PAO chief of Chaiyaphum) want North - Isan railway via Chaiyaphum (Chaturat - Chaiyaphum - Loei - Nong Bua Lamphu) - but it is up to the result submitted to the government by the end of April 2015 to see who will get the funds for studying in 2016.

2.1 Route 2 (Purple) (Red)
Lam Narai (Lopburi) - Chaibadan (Lopburi) - Sri Thep (Phetchabun) - Wichian Buri (Phetchabun) - Bueng Samphan (Phetchabun) - Nong Phai (Phetchabun) - Mueang Phetchabun (Phetchabun) - Lom Sak (Phetchabun) - Lom Kao (Phetchabun) - Phu Luang (Loei) - Wang Saphung (Loei) - Mueang Loei (Loei) - Na Wang (Nong Bua Lamphu) - Na Klang (Nong Bua Lamphu) - Mueang Nong Bua Lamphu (Nong Bua Lamphu) - 4 provinces - 15 districts 392 km

Even though it is a consensus that the electrified double tracking from Hatyai to Padang besar with a distance of 48 km must go on, the next step to be executed is to revive Hatyai - Songkla line as 29-30 km electrified double tracking even though there are already a plan for Surat Thani - Hatyai - Songkla double tracking since Hatyai people cannot wait anymore and they press the demand for massive electrified double tracking to Songkla ---

It would take EMU from Hatyai to Padang Besar within 26 minutes - with the actual speed of 120 kph max even though this section must be constructed in line with 160 kph max of KTMB. Need to deal with 33 level crossings along with 60 bridges, pipes and culverts along Hatyai - Padang Besar tpo prevent the perennial flood of Hatyai city - similar thing has to be done to Hatyai - Songkla line as well.

Denchai - Chiang Rai - Chiang Khong Postponed as Big Jun want the extension of the line from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai despite of the fact that the construction cost per km is 6 times the construction cost per km from Denchai to Chiang Khong via Chiang Rai (326 km) at 77,486 Million Baht (3808 Million Baht land exappropriation for 10000 rai of land and 4 tunnels with the total length of 13 km + 71000 Million Baht construction). Big Jin has come up after Chinese government has rejected the line from Bangsue Central to Chiang Mai as it has no direct connection to the 4th Friendship Bridge in Chiang Khong via Chiang Rai [now, the business hub for Chinese investor].

the 326 km from Denchai to Chiang Khong consisted of the following sections
1. Section in Prae [77.20 km] with 6 station including Denchai [New building], Soong Men, Phrae, Mae Khammee, Nong Siaw and Song
2. Section in Lampang [52.40 km] with 3 stations including Mae Teeb - Ngao and Pong Tao
3. section in Phayao [54.10 km] with 6 stations including Phayao university. Thok Kwak, Phayao, Dong Jenm Ban Rong and Ban Mai
4. section in Chiang Rai [139.40] with 11 stations including Pa Daen, pa Ngae, Ban Pong Kluea, San Pa Hiang, Chiang Rai, Thung Kor, Wiang Chiang Rung, Pa Sang Junction, Ban Kiang, Sri Don Chai and Chiang Khon

the strip width would be 50 meter for meter gauge

Furthermore, OTP is going to deal with the double tracking from Denchai to Chiang mai to increase track capacity that pass 4 provinces [Phra, Lampang, Lamphun, Chiang Mai], 10 district and 30 communes - which can be done byeither

1. sticking with the same old 217 km route
2. sticking much the same route but with curve correction to shorten to 206 km
3. almost the new route to Lampang before following the same highspeed route to Chiang Mai - 170 km

There will be 27 stations along this double track
1. Denchai
2. Pak Pan
3. kaeng Luang
4. Ban Pin
5. Pha khan
6. Pha Khor
7. Pang Puay
8. Mae Jang
9. Mae Moh,
10. Huay Rak Mai
11. Sala Phalad
12. Mae Tha
13. Nong Wua Thao
14. Nakhon Lampang
15. Bo Haew
16. Hang Chat
17. Pang Muang
18. Huay Rian
19. Mae Tan Noy
20. Khun tan
21. Tha Chompoo
22. Sala Mae Tha
23. Nong Lom
24. Lamphun
25. Pa Sao
26. Saraphee
27. Chiang Mai

Note: I thought that the line would go from Chiang Mai to Phayao before following the same route to Chiang Khong via Chiang Rai - at least it is going to connect with Mueang district of Chiang Mai and Phayao in addition to Chiang Rai
Note 2: There is a political motivation to come up with the route from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. At least, this is a measure to quell those angry voices of UDD men as well as other local people in Chiang Mai (UDD hotbed) to be more reconcile with Junta.
Note 3: This measure is also to attract more investment from either China or Japan

Interior of sleeper passenger coach set ordered from CNR Changchun and to be delivered in September 2016 for the nationwide double tracking project.

The carriages can handle a max speed of 120 km/h, but operational speed will be 100 km/h.

- Under the plan, the SRT will also purchase 50 new locomotives to replace the old GE locomotives.
- 250 more aircon carriages (regular set) will be purchased, which is still under study.

those in Phetchabun Provincial Hall seems to be resigned with disappointment as SRT and consultant still insist the line to Chaiyaphum on the ground for the ease of construction while the Phetchabun section is very hard to deal with and this line to phetchabun require tunneling while the line to Chaiyaphum never need tunneling at all.

However, consultant has to make a compromise by allowing the line to reach Phetchabun province with Lom Kao district as the main dropping point for Phetchabun.

The best deal is:
4. Ban Phu Namron checkpoint to Tha Kilen station (dropping point to Mueang Sing stone castle) until it has reached Wang Yen station and then the new route from Wang Yen to Tha Ruea Noy station - to bypass Kanchanaburi city and then following the existing Nam Tok line to Nong Pladuk and going all the way to Tha Chalaeb station and then the new route from Tha Chalaeb station all the way to the northern end of Phan Thong station - with 2 giant bridges across the mouth of Chao Phraya river and Bang Pakong river while passing Nakhon Chaisri district, Sam Phran district of Nakhon Pathom, Krathum Baen and Mueang district of Samut Sakhon, Bang Khun Thian district of BKK, Phra Samut Chedi and Mueang district, Bang Plee and Bang Bo district of Samut Prakarn along with Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao and Phanthong district of Chonburi before following the existing Sattahip line from Phan Thong all the way to Laem Chabang Deep Sea port with a total price tag of 98000 Million Baht for the distance of 322 km

Here is the breakdown for 7 sections of this line
1. Phu Namron checkpoint - Tha Kilen station - 36 km - new route to Border
2. Tha Kilen station - Wang Yen station - 23 km
3. Wang Yen station - Tha Ruea Noy station - 29 km - new bypass route for Kanchanaburi
4. Tha Ruea Noy station - Nong Pladuk Junction - 30 km
5. Nong Pladuk Junction - Tha Chalaeb station - 27 km

6. Tha Chalaeb station - Phan Thong station - 118.5 km - the toughest section of all due to 2 giant bridges and across the mouth of Chao Phraya river and Bang Pakong river while while passing Nakhon Chaisri district, Sam Phran district of Nakhon Pathom, Krathum Baen and Mueang district of Samut Sakhon, Bang Khun Thian district of BKK, Phra Samut Chedi and Mueang district, Bang Plee and Bang Bo district of Samut Prakarn along with Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao and Phanthong district of Chonburi

The route for the lower east west corridor railway has now been chosen. This double track railway is 322 km and will link two deep sea ports, Thai Laem Chabang Port and Dawei Port in Myanmar. The intention is to bypass the Malacca Strait with this railway.

Since the route from Lam Narai to Nong Bua Lamphu via Phetchabun and Loei is no longer an option, so they are asking for the route from Wang Saphung to Lom Khao with a possible extension to Phetchabun
