because it currently only serves Indonesia. i don't mind at all if it flies locally, but this is the fact.

[QUOTE=tbc;70937409]Amazing set of figures you presented there

If I may summarize and work some additional maths in ?

Undercapacity:
KLIA -4.6M ; TGG -1.5M ; MKZ -1.48M

Pax volume:
KLIA 20.4M ; TGG 0.5M ; MKZ 0.02M

Operating at design capacity:
KLIA 82% ; TGG 25% ; MKZ 1.3%

(albeit, those figures for MKZ are those available before upgrade)

I think perhaps we can illustrate the issue better this way :
Max design capacity (which the CM is basing his computations on) is 1.5M per year
Assuming equal volume arrivals and departures, that is 750,000 pax per year
Equivalent to 2,055 pax per day
You would thus require the combined capacity of 8x A320/B734 class aircraft (nominally 150pax) and 12x ATR72 class aircraft (nominally 70 pax) operating at full loads in both directions to/from MKZ, every day of the year, merely for "mampulah untuk membayar gaji kakitangan dan sebagainya"
What is the traffic like currently ?

I have to admit that I failed my additional mathematics subject in school.

However what I would like to illustrate was the amount of money spent to upgrade the little Melaka International Airport is nothing compared to KLIA and Kuala Trengganu Airport.

As a comparison:

Kuala Trengganu Airport upgrading work
RM500 million with lavish 3 storey intricate architecture for the terminal building and ATC tower plus 2,800m runway for Boeing 747 to land.

KLIA
RM8.5 billion with 514,694 sq m 5 storey main terminal building and satelite building plus two runways at more than 4,000m each.

And Melaka International Airport upgrading work?
RM190 million with 7,000 sq m single storey low key architecture terminal building and ATC tower plus 2,200m runway for Boeing 737 to land.

With the amount of money spent on KLIA (45 times more than MIA) the airport should be able to handle 67.5 million ppa (1.5 million x 45) and not 25 million ppa based on the reported design capacity.

And with the amount of money spent on Kuala Trengganu Airport (2.65 times more than MIA) the airport should be able to handle 3.975 million ppa (1.5 million x 2.65) and not 2 million based on the reported design capacity.

So, based on the figures above, the upgrading of MIA has been done efficiently to fit its purpose to handle 1.5 million ppa and for the landing of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 max. The upgrading is nothing compared to KLIA and Kuala Trengganu Airport. Please go and check all these 3 airports for your to make your own comparison and judgement.

It will take quite a while for the airport to reach its maximum design capacity. If you expect 8 Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 full load to land at the airport tomorrow to justify its existence, then I would expect at least one (1) Airbus A380 even half load to land at KLIA the next day to justify the spending of RM135 million on upgrading works to accommodate such aircraft at that particular airport.

Lets summarise this by giving all these airports (not only Melaka International Airport) time to justify the investment that has already been spent.

If Melaka International Airport reached its maximum design capacity (1.5 million ppa) in one year, I can bet that there will be people who are going to blame the CM (not MAHB for some reasons) for not thinking of the future while planning for the upgrading work of this little airport.

If you check MAHB website, only 5 airports in Malaysia that have been recognised or accorded the status of international airport, KLIA, Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi. The international status for Melaka International Airport was given by Melaka government, I supposed, as the airport handled majority international flights from Pekanbaru, Indonesia. So, I suggest that you can go along with MAHB by not recognising this airport as an international airport but you can never stop this airport from receiving more international flights in the future.

Actually if so, casualty treatments are not the cash cow business that hospitals and medical centres crave to survive on. It's those cases that require long term follow ups - cardiology and neurology for example that are financially attractive

Shuttle bus from Pantai Hospital

Ambulance from Putra Specialist Hospital

Suttle bus from Mahkota Medical Centre

This will be another tourist attraction for the Unesco Heritage City of Melaka. An aviation museum at Melaka International Airport with Heritage Air's BAE 146 aircraft as the first item to be on display. The airlines name is suitable and has the potential to be part of the historical items in this historical airport serving the historical city of Melaka. And Gading Sari/Poslaju aircraft will join later to complete the aviation museum's collection.

Medical tourists from all over the region will flock to this airport to visit this aviation museum before going to the hospitals for medical treatment.

Hey ! You've hit on a pretty good and viable idea ... an Aviation Museum at the doorstep of MIA .They already have an old plane being exhibited at the former Coronation Park ... bring that to Batu Berendam too. If they would rebuild the old airport control tower that will add more authenticity to it !!

And they can get a few old decommissioned MasWings Fokker F50 aircraft and some cargo planes from Transmile Air to make up the numbers.
If they can get the aircraft that bring the independence negotiators including the late Tunku Abdul Rahman back to the country from London and landed at Batu Berendam Airport, that will be better!

This thread has been relatively quiet. No "happenings" in MIA lately ? Do Riau and Wings Airways still have regular scheduled flights there ? No new airlines venturing into Melaka ? What about Heritage Air ... still for "decorating" the airport apron with no where to fly to ?

KM akui lapangan terbang Melaka kurang sambutanElissa Helmy
Apr 20, 11
