700,000 sq ft of shopping
95,000 sq ft of Fine dining
100,000 sq ft of 8 screen multiplex
Doesn't specify extent of space for entertainment zone and gaming. If that's another 100,000 sq ft then that puts the mall size at 1 Million Sq ft. Shouldn't the city capital mall be larger? although no work seems to be going on with that mall presently, unless they are working on basements which is not visible from the road.

The co will design, build, deliver and manage the installation of the SelTrac communications-based train control solution

Engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro signed an agreement with Thales, India for providing Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) and Integrated Communications and Supervision (ICS) systems for Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project. The CBTC advanced signalling and ICS systems will be implemented for the HMR lines 1, 2 and 3, covering 72 km of rail and comprising 66 stations.

“We are delighted to have secured the first CBTC project in India, as this is a landmark contract being the first of its kind in India,” Thales India vice president, Eric Lenseigne, stated in a press release on Tuesday.

Thales Group is a Euro 13 billion French multinational company that designs and builds electrical systems and provides services for the aerospace, defence, transportation and security markets.

Thales will design, build, deliver and manage the installation of the SelTrac communications-based train control solution. Its success, according to the company, has already been proven globally as more than 30 of the world's largest cities metro systems use Thales SelTrac CBTC, transporting 3 billion passengers each year.

The integrated communications and supervision systems supplied will build on the success of previous supervision projects in India in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Jaipur. Thales will deliver its comprehensive ICS package, composed by data transmission, public address, passenger information display, fault reporting facilities, office automation and information technology, CCTV, access control and intrusion detection, master clock, telephony, voice recording and radio tetra systems.

The L&T HMR, a public-private partnership (PPP) project, is expected to trigger robust economic activity in and around the city and generate substantial employment. The greenfield project will be deployed in six stages and will cover three key corridors: Miyapur to LB Nagar; Jubilee Bus Stand to Falaknuma; and Nagole to Shilparaman. Under the integrated coordination of a central control operations facility, trains will operate automatically, with an attendant on board.

L&T incorporated a special purpose vehicle, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited to implement the project on a design, built, finance, operate and transfer basis.

HYDERABAD: With Madhapur almost hitting saturation levels in terms of development, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to develop its immediate neighbourhood, Khanamet, as a new hub for commercial and mixed-use zone.

The HMDA plans to develop another hub both for commercial and residential spaces in about 100 acres (40 hectares) in Khanamet, adjoining vacant land of Hi-Tec City on the public private partnership (PPP) basis by roping in private parties for development.

The land is located between Hi-Tec City MMTS station and the proposed metro rail station near Shilparamam. The identified area is considered to be the most potential area as it is located on the spinal road connecting the National Highway 9 (Mumbai Highway) on the JNTU-Kukatpally-Hi-Tec City stretch. The road is also less than 10 kms from the Outer Ring Road junction in Gachibowli. With real estate picking up, the HMDA, which has been looking at various options for generating revenue, has taken up the initiative.

HMDA officials said they were now in the process of engaging a consultant for preparation of a 'greenfield nodal development' plan following recent trends in urban designs on the lines of Down Town. The new hub would be useful for transit-oriented development with commercial and mixed-land use development with pedestrian facilities, open spaces and convenience of metro, MMTS and bus stations.

"The HMDA has invited Request for Proposal for selection of a consultant for the nodal development of Khanamet and the selection process will be completed by February-end," HMDA chief engineer V Madhwaraja said.

HMDA would engage the consultant to prepare a detailed nodal development master plan for the land apart from assisting the authority in its development, implementation and maintenances of the project under PPP.

Officials said the consultant would prepare the plan by carrying out a market survey on demand for various land uses like housing, commercial, retail, office, recreational and light industrial purposes and also identify opportunities for mixed-land use development. "Before preparing the plan, the consultant will examine the land use proposed in the master plan and zonal development plan and related development controls and building regulations and suggest changes to be made in respect of land use, development controls and building regulations and special permissions required for undertaking nodal development," a senior HMDA official said.

Once the broad outline is ready, a detailed concept plan, layout, percentage of total ground area, floor area, saleable area of each land use type, buildable space, open space, pedestrian facilities and parking requirements and broad estimates would be prepared by the consultant, the officials said.

Though animation industry largely caters to child audience for its revenues, the business of animation is no child's play. Animation industry has evolved into a big business with Hyderabad-based institutes bagging international deals with bigwigs such as Disney, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The overall growth of the industry has resulted in spurt in the number of institutes and studios over the past few years in the city.

Industry insiders said the city is expected to serve as a nodal point of animation production and gaming-related technology soon with leading companies such as DQ Entertainment, Game Shastra, Electronic Arts, Fx Labs, Green Gold Animation setting up operations here.

With a healthy Compound Annual Growth Ratio (CAGR) of 23% in the last five years, the business is expected to reach the US $1 billion mark in the next few years. City animation companies too have been making their presence felt on global platforms with several international collaborations to boast of, one such company is DQ Entertainment.

"We are currently producing international projects like The Jungle Book second season, The New Adventures of Peter Pan along with co-production projects like Robin Hood, Little Prince season 3, Iron Man in 3D," said Sumedha Saraogi, senior vice-president at DQ Entertainment which saw a growth of 9.3% in 2012 to Rs 2,272 million from a Rs 2,078 million annual turnover in 2011. Other projects in their pipeline include 2D animation series with broadcast partners such as Colors, Cartoon Network, Disney, Nickelodeon etc.

Officials from various studios and companies here said that in the past five years, more than 50 institutes offering various certificate, diploma and B Sc courses in animation have come up in the city and every year at least four new studios and companies set up shop here. An increasing number of youth here are keen on taking up a career in this field, lured by the wide range of opportunities and quick increase in remuneration. "Now, Hyderabad is arguably the hub for animation in India, with more than 50% of international jobs coming to the country being handled by city-based companies," sources said.

For students from other Indian cities too, Hyderabad is now the first choice to study; more than 80% of our students are from other places," said Rocky F, business development manager at Picasso Animation College in Banjara Hills which has branches across the country. Thanks to overall growth of the industry here, even the salaries have seen a substantial hike. "A fresher's gets around Rs 12,000 during internship and at the completion of the course, the salary would be around Rs 18,000. But the experienced would easily get up to Rs 40,000 or more depending on performance," he added.

The rising popularity of animation among the youth is evident in the number of applicants at Picasso, which has gone up from around 1,200 in 2009 to more than 2,500 in the previous year. At Digiquest Academy, another such institute in Somajiguda, the number of students in each batch has gone up from 40 in the last few years to nearly 100 this year.

M Amarender, principal at Digiquest explained the widening scope. "Animation and visual effects now have applications in e-learning, medical procedure simulators, gaming, fashion and interior designing, architecture and event management," he said.

The Authority proposes to come up with a Greenfield nodal development plan and intends to follow the recent trends of urban design concepts such as Down Town and also the Transit Oriented Development.

For more than a decade, Madhapur and its peripheries have been the focus area for real estate activities from office, commercial and residential to ancillary facilities. The area developed, prospered and the scramble for development over the years has taken away most of the available land spaces.

Capitalising on the prospects of the area, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has now decided to use the land available with it to create new facilities.

Two sites, one at Khanamet and another at Izzatnagar, have been worked out for development to compliment with the present growth mode here.

The urban development body has approximately 40 acre of land at Khanamet in Madhapur area which is strategically located on the buzzing Spinal Road that connects Hitec City with Mumbai Highway.

The entire vicinities of the road stretch have metamorphosed in the last decade with a series of residential and commercial development and ranks high on the sought after list of prospective property seekers.

The HMDA proposal is to come up with a Greenfield nodal development plan at the 40 acre site.

Not just a cluster of development but the Authority intends to follow the recent trends of urban design concepts such as Down Town and also the Transit Oriented Development (TOD).

The officials explain that the idea is to have the site designed in such a way that it serves as a high density urban centre for commercial and mixed land use development.

As a model development, it is intended to have high quality pedestrian facilities making it conveniently accessible to the Metro Rail and MMTS stations.

The official says the planning for the site has been in the direction of developing this site in a controlled and designed manner to complement the surrounding transit development.

“With this, we also want to challenge the city with new ideas of urban design concepts of high density development,” he says.

Stressing on the pedestrian facilities, appropriate open spaces and other elements are proposed to be integrated to enhance the physical quality that could stand out in comparison with existing development model in the city.

For coming up with the nodal development plan, the HMDA will soon be finalising consultants with required qualification and experience.

Once in place, they will tasked to carry out reconnaissance surveys and verification of issues such as zoning and guidelines and then suggest best international practices of urban design concepts.

The Khanamet site apart, the Authority is also actively pursuing another project in Madhapur at Izzatnagar.

It has 34 acres spread out in three parcels at National Academy of Construction (NAC) campus which is proposed for development as ancillary and complementary facility for the existing HICC and HITEX.

Since both HICC and HITEX have become popular destination for not only local but also national and international events, the HMDA looks at coming up with Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition (MICE) facilities at the Izzatnagar site.
