acc521 In Madrid: 13 - 14 March 2009

Here are some Madrid pics. A very cool city that was much better than I had expected. Quite a compact city with lots to do. Shopping, food and drinks are all relatively cheap and it's overall a fun place and full of young people who know how to drink, eat and enjoy life! I love how when going out, the food and tapas is just as important as the alcohol.

Unfortunately not. I wasn't able to get the train I wanted and had already booked other things so had to cut Madrid short by two days I will certainly be going back to fill in the gaps someday though. I did check out the park where the Temple of Debod was and the university area but didn't have my camera with me.

The pictures are beautiful, the only problem they are so big and it makes it very hard to see them. It is up to you, but I will suggest you make them a size smaller like I do with mine.

Nice collection, they just fill me with excitement about going there next month. What did you think of the Santiago Bernabeau stadium? I'm personally not one for football but I was amazed at the scale of the place and the seating capacity!

My brother went to the Bernabeau but I didn't as I wanted to do a bit more walking around the city instead. He was very impressed though and spent an hour and a half in there as it was a lot more comprehensive than he had thought what with all of the history with the city and politics etc. I will be going to the Nou Camp this week though - looking forward to it!

From an asthetic point of view Madrid is awesome . But my fav thing about the city is socialising with what must vie to be the friendliest residents of any capital in Europe, then going on a tapas round at around the time of the paseo and then enjoying the greatest nightlife in the world

Im not sure what was happening at the time in world politics, but my mate and I didnt feel very welcome when we went backpacking through Madrid. I'll try and remember what year it was but we were 2 young anglo Australians that were constantly accused of being American and as a result the people were not very nice to us and we didnt have a clue as to why. Everywhere we went we tried to speak a little bit of Spanish and we were polite, and I remember the rudest waiter who almost died of embarasment when we said we were Australian.
I was blown away by how grand Madrid was, but we weren't too upset when we left. Didnt have any problems like this in Barcelona.

I love spain as much as much as i love my native US, but i did find some people rude simply because we were american. its a shame because they knew nothing about me or my politics. I cant help that Im american or that my country has done some messed up things as much as any spaniard could for their countries indiscretions(which we all have). didnt upset me too much, i love and absolutely adore spain, its architecture, its history, its beauty and that my descendants came from this amazing place. Madrid is my favorite city in the world and i would gladly live their.

There seems to be alot of hostility right thru out most parts of the world towards U.S citizens unfortunately . But you must have been terribly unlucky . As a native Canadian living in Australia i have never encountered anything but politeness and friendliness every time i have been to Madrid .
In fact i find the citizens of Madrid so friendly that i always get the impression that they belong to some small friendly town rather than a grand metropolis like Madrid . Yet i always find many more citizens from Barcelona alot colder .
