Not nice news

I cannot understand the demolition mania (which is related to skyscrapers). Beautiful avenues filled with gorgeous villas (Paulista in Sao Paulo, Paseo de la Reforma in DF) were destroyed to span "skyscraper canyons" The only charming points in those avenues are just the few villas and little old buildings that survived!

An interesting update taken from a local newspaper, which has published photos provided by the tower's designers LBR Arquitectos.

This tower has an spectacular design, it's like Modern 21st Century-Brutalist architecture.

Very unique!

Reforma was never filled with villas. Although it is now one of the most central locations in the city, it was originally created to connect "The City" (now Historic Center), with Chapultepec (Then a forest a few minutes outside the city), so for a long period of time Reforma was all surrounded by woods.

Before that, all the "Villas", were located in the south of the city, back then the towns of San Angel and Coyoacan (now also absorbed by the city).

At the end of the 19th Century and begining of the 20th Century as the city expanded, wealthy neighborhoods started being created on the outskirts of the city in the now Roma and Juarez neighborhoods, parts of Reforma belong to Juarez neighborhood, however most of the Mansions concentrated in streets other than Reforma, and some of those examples that did get built along Reforma still remain in the avenue.

Everything else were bulidings from the 30's, 40's and 50's, most of them small buildings with very simple designs.

SO in reality, even though there are a cases were beautiful homes were lost, most of the construction in Reforma did not cause a massive loss of buildings with a high architectural value.

Why is Torre Reforma ha a very tall Firewall Building with few windows? And why are Mexico Upcoming Skyscrapers have very thin body? Are they earthquake proof?

Well that was the architec design, Yes Torre Reforma is designed to resist a 9.0 earthquake, it has 60 meters of foundations...

Additionally, the wall supports the whole structure, too. You may like it or not, but it is undeniably a very unique design on its own and an original proposal to withstand earthquakes among these scales.
