BERLIN 1979 Part 2

I got requests if i had some more pictures of that 1979 Berlin Trip of my Parents and indeed here come some more:

Brandenburg Gate, West Berlin Side, Different Angle

Reichstag Building with my Dad

Soviet Cenotaph in West Berlins Tiergarten. It was actually Soviet Territory within West Berlin and you couldnt go near there. Red Army Guards watched it.

Those tanks where removed after the fall of the wall from the Cenotaph

Siegessäule - Victory Column 1979

ICC International Congress Centrum Berlin 1979

Schloss Charlottenburg - Charlottenburg Castle 1979

Some Church in West Berlin, not sure what its called

On the way to the Airport, probably Tegel or Tempelhof

Those are all worth posting here. Enjoy

Great photos again!

BTW, those tanks are still standing there, just like the cannons. And the airport on the last picture is Tegel.

i love watching the people's clothing/styling and the cars.

btw, didn't know about the sovjet cenotaph. so this was as tiny part of the Sovjet Union inside West Germany. But where did the soldiers come from in the morning and where did they go in the evening?

If you look closely you can see a changing of guards. As Berlin was under the 4 Allied Nations (France, UK, USA, Soviet Union) rule the 4 Nations had freedom of movement throughout the City. The Soldiers for the cenotaph where brought in over Checkpoint Charlie as far as I know

I've always wondered how people of West Berlin used to live in the times of GDR? They were surrounded by it, they couldn't freely leave their city with a car to go on a weekend trip in the surroundings, for example?

well they couldnt go into East Berlin or East Germany, but they could leave West Berlin to go to West Germany via 3 Transit Autobahns without a limit.
