Wow! That is one heck of an expressway... specially the shots where the guy is standing next to the bulldozer or whatever... looks like an airport tarmac. This will be a super road once it is done, from the looks of it..

i'll be very happy to see proper landscaping alongside the expressway..
lush green trees alongside would make this a wonderful travel experience..

Jaypee's huge outlay on Ganga Expressway project

Quote:
The Jaypee Group of Industries on Tuesday announced that it would invest Rs. 70,000 crore in the next five years to build the ambitious 1,047 km long Noida-Ballia Ganga Expressway project. It also said that the Yamuna Expressway project would be completed two years ahead of schedule by March 2011.

Addressing a press conference here to announce the opening of the forthcoming initial public offering (IPO) of Jaypee Infratech Limited to raise Rs. 1,650 crore, group Chairman J. P. Gaur said the Ganga Expressway project was ready and all the alignment works had been approved.

Jaypee Group firm Jaypee Ganga Infrastructure Corp had signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in 2008 for constructing an eight-lane expressway connecting Greater Noida and Ballia. At present, Japyee Infratech was executing the Yamuna Expressway project connecting New Delhi with Agra. The project, originally scheduled for completion in April 2013, would be thrown open for traffic by April 2011, Jaypee Group Managing Director Manoj Gaur said.

Giving details of the Ganga Expressway project, Jaypee Infratech Director-in-Charge, Sameer Gaur, said “We have sorted out all the issues. We will acquire 33,000 acres for the project, of which the expressway will alone require 28,000 acres.”

He said the company would require about Rs. 70,000 crore for the entire project which will include land acquisition cost. Out of the total amount, the company would invest Rs. 35,000-38,000 crore in constructing the expressway, he added. Mr. Manoj Gaur said the firm would also develop 6,175 acres at five locations along the expressway for commercial, industrial, institutional, residential and amusement purposes.

The company will hit the capital market on April 29 with its IPO in which 6 crore shares would be issued by the existing promoters.

The IPO will be through 100 per cent book building process with the price band fixed at Rs. 102-117 per share.

Well, roughly half the amount is going towards land acquisition and construction cost is the other half. Jaypee is targeting a $3B/yr spend over five years. With $7B spent on land, there will be a lot of rich farmers in UP!

The other news is that the Noida / Agra stretch will be open in March 2011 ahead of schedule by 2 years!

With this project the Gangetic plain would be transformed into a major an economic zone.

^Sweeeet!
Looks awesomee!

I have a question though..
right now in dec 2010, they will be making just 4 lane road, and then at the end of 2011 they will have the entire 6 lane road ready ?

also, I heard that this expressway is "extendable" to 8 lanes, but when I look at the pic above..the immediate land next to the expressway is still farm land..so will they have to acquire land again once they decide to extend it to 8 lanes, or has the land been already acquired.
and when they say it is extendable, do they usually mean that they have acquired the land or just that they have the govt's green signal?

By extendable they mean that the land is in their possession (this extra land usually lies between the two main carriageways or between the main carriageway and service lane on both sides).

Also it means that the project is designed keeping future in mind, for example all the flyovers of this expressway are already 8 lanes (seen it myself) even though the surface road will be 6 lane initially. Since widening of flyover is difficult so they are already making 8 lane flyovers. Also the interchanges are designed keeping in mind the 8 lanes road traffic as it is not possible or very difficult to expand interchanges.

In short when hey say extendable to xyz lanes, it means half of the work is already done even before it reaches its full capacity of xyz lanes, which differentiates it from widening of road, which was not thought/planned before while building the road. I have also seen that some new flyovers of new 4 lanes highways (I think GQ) are 6 laned even though rest of the road is 4 laned.

Lightbulb

2 massive stadia. 100,000 cricket stadium & F1 track. Where the F*** is a single parking lot for that many vehicles. maybe they'll park it on expressway itself. this is disastrous planning.

Cmon man, uve been on this forum for nearly 6yrs, surely u know by now that quoting (esp such large) pics is a no-no.

Also, within the pic, please read the part that states that it is simply an artists impression, no need to blow a fuse about parking space based on that.

dude. please. give me a break. artist somehow didnt forget even 1 out of 6 clusters of skyscrapers & even 1 out of 2 stadia. & yet parking lot is left out.

funny thing is Taj Mahal is there too. wonder when they're building that one.

my point is simple. you gotta show atleast 1 common parking lot for 2 stadia. kapish ??? I'm not blaming the artist. Its the planners who will deliberately forget to build one in the name of lush endless greenary.

Surely thats just a marketing issue more than a planning one? Not everyone who sees that poster is going to be the kind of person who is so interested as these things as to be on SSCI

Artist will have been told what to include (fancy stuff like stadia, towers etc), just to give wow-factor for an audience that most likely arent as critical of infra-demands as us here on SSCI are.

Im not saying that the planners have given proper provision for parking needs, just saying that its not possible to say they havent, based on what is clearly labelled as an artistic representation rather than an actual plan.

It is not even an artistic impression. It is a cartoon, lol. Otherwise how can you see both Greater Noida and Agra from a single point.
