Charleston, South Carolina, USA - old and well preserved

some pics from January of Charleston, and not just the touristy areas. sadly it's usually overcast in winter, which makes for great night shots but not so nice day shots. weather gets better in spring, summer and fall.

Charleston was where the American Civil War started; it was also the first city to enact historic preservation ordinances.

Excellent shots! Really enjoyed the tour! Must say, some of these buildings look quite British in design.. Would really like to see more photos of Charleston.

By the pics light change as we go on this thread it looks that you spent whole night on it.

Great job, dude! I love to watch this part of States here.

What's the climate of Charleston, subtropical? I've seen some palm trees on these photos.

i spent about 90 minutes taking pics around 3 parts of the city at night; i've covered more ground in the evening in the past (see below links,) but it was cold when these pics were taken. Charleston's pretty warm and humid, but can get cold...they got snow this year.

this is Charleston, SC, not Charlotte, NC. one city embraced historic preservation...the other one tried and nearly succeeded in destroying most of its historic structures.

every area of charleston just looks so walking-friendly. it's a great example of urbanity in sort of a small city. i mean the tourism helps too. too bad there was so much construction in some of the downtown shots. also i kind of like the fact that it was cold and overcast in these shots. too many touristy shots of charleston are on sunny days in the middle of the summer, and it's nice to have a variety.

Ok, now I understand the hype around Charleston!
Incredible photography!

By the way, I didn't expect Charleston to be so dense.

Charleston is great city. I was there in September of 2006, gorgeous, unbelievably hot, but gorgeous.
