Two of the many metro systems in S. Korea

I apologise for the extremely poor quality of the photographs, they were taken with my phone camera.

Seoul Metro Line 2 - Opened in 1980, it is the world's largest ring (circle) line, 87 minutes to travel the whole line (excluding branch lines).

New rolling stock introduced in 2005.

Interior.

Information display onboard branch line train.

Dongmyo Station - Line 1
New station on Line 1, built to make transferring to line 6 possible.

Daejeon metro - Opened in March 2006, currently the newest metro in S. Korea.

Platform screen doors and information display showing the location of the train (train is one station behind)

Interior of train. Rather narrow interior compared to that of Seoul.

Seoul looks like somewhere in Scandinavia, say Copenhagen. But I prefer N.Korean metro though, it looks like Russia.

VERY COOL

It’s nice to see pics from places rarely visited! It was new to me that, apart from a subway, they also have trams and trolley buses. There are rumors though that metro service is infrequent due to power shortages.

This is just awesome. If North Korea someday becomes non-communistic state. I hope that they keep what they have and dont make it all messed up like in China.

How did you manage to take the tram? Is the tram going far?
Nice map which I dont understand anything of.. only that the red light stands for where you are or where the subway wagon is?

Thanks for great pics!!!

Some of those trams look like the ones I rode in Prague.

Cool pics btw. North Korea is perhaps the only place in the world without ads? Its so odd, everybody dress similar and seem like the city is so dead no interesting shops or restaurants. I wonder what kinds of work these people do. Theres like no economy over there.

There're other reasons as well, as most of the North Korean cannot afford a car. And those fled to South Korea, they work very hard to afford a car!

According to the unofficial Pyongyang Metro website, the Tatra T4 trams were bought secondhand from cities in eastern Germany during the late 1990s. The other trams were built for Pyongyang. The current metro trains in Pyongyang, incidentally, came secondhand from Berlin and had been built in the 1950s-1960s for West Berlin.

Can anyone translate the slogans written on the sides of the buses?

Probably something like "Long Live the Great Leader, Eternal Deity and Holy Bringer of Eternal Prosperity and Wealth to the Glorious Nation of North Korean People!" or some other pseudo-communist bullshit slogan...

Love their stations. How come communist metros always have the nicest stations (Berlin, Moscow, etc)???

Berlin is not a communist metro. Berlin has had 7 non-communist metro lines and two line that were maintained and extended by the communist part of the city. The first 'communist line' (now the northern part of U2) has a couple of nice stations but all of them were built around 1907-1913 (pre-communist era) and the other (now U5) and was the dullest of the entire city, station-wise, until it got refurbished after the end of the communist era.
