What they mean by 'light rail'? Trams in mixed traffic or independend rail?

Hahah, mixed traffic trams in Korea? No chance. They mean DLR style segregated rail. I this case the trains are much shorter than usual Seoul metro. A few of the lines will probably end up elevated too like the Everline

@trainrover You shouldn't post those; it only encourages the posters, who are just trying to make women look bad. You never see videos like those of men behaving badly on Korean subways.

Request denied. I like women with balls (whether or not nuts ), S Korea seems to have many of them ... the male scraps there (you know, the typical post-business meeting drunkeness), on the other hand, tend to be mundane ...

Yes, but (sorry to be more OT) that was a video taken by a non-Korean of non-Koreans. Most of the videos posted by Koreans are of Korean women causing trouble, which is just trying to make them look bad. Unbelievable, some Korean netizens (mostly guys) have it in their heads that women in Korea have it too easy, that they don't treat men fairly, etc., and they post videos of women smoking, drinking, fighting on subways to make it seem as though women can just walk all over men there, when that's anything but the truth.

I'm just wary of anyone feeding into that mentality. If anything, these women probably behave the way they do because, from what I've heard and read, it's very difficult being a women in Korea for a lot of them.

But that video is in Japan.

Can we please keep this to topic thank you. Posting videos like this - especially ones not even from the country involved is derailing the thread.

Thank you.

Ha, I saw a video last week my friend took of a drunk businessman who had passed out lying down on an early morning subway train. First his trousers came off then his hand went down his dirty underwear. I think most of the time when it happens you can't post on YouTube coz its your boss ㅋㅋㅋ

No way it is street running. It will most likely be underground I think

If it is underground why wouldnt they just build heavy rail so they can get the higher capacity for all the cost of tunneling?

Black - existing project lines/routes
Red - new extension project lines/routes
Blue - candidate projects

In Korea they tend to say lrt for shorter trains/smaller stations. Full length Seoul metro trains are very long - a single train will carry about the same as the entire Glasgow subway! The nomenclature has gotten muddled, for example Daegu subway line 3 is fully elevated, as is the Everline but these aren't referred to as lrt.

There is no chance they will build street running trams. Zilch. Zero. I suspect from the way the above map shows branching lines that these will be underground but using smaller, lighter rolling stock. Elevated is a possibility but it's unlikely that they could join them up as per the red extensions - Seoul is too densely populated and too mountainous.

Seoul has a great system already, these projects are to build feeder lines with shorter trains/higher frequency in areas no served by subway.

Tunnelling is a fixed cost, if the system is driverless then train cars are a fixed cost too. Building the stations is the expensive part - they can have smaller stations with more frequent trains as these are planned to be minor feeder lines.
