Police suspects something which couls be a bomb/explosives at Gangnamgu-Office station on the Bundang Line and Metro Line 7. I think ttrains will be stopped for awhile.

I made a new schematic map of Seoul subway network.

All lines are represented, stations are labelled in Korean and English, line 2 is an elongated circle. I tried to make it as symmetrical and harmonious as possible but still small enough to be printed on 20cmx20cm

You can see it in better resolution on

I love that map! Maybe the G-line (one of them) to Yongmun has just a little bit too pale color. It's hard to see it.

Cool map. Only thing I dislike is Incheon Airport part of the AREX should be on the other side. As it stands it looks like the airport is inland instead of out in the sea

@Falubaz

Thanks.

Commuter lines are pale pastel colored on purpose to maintain a hierarchy with metro lines being more visible. In Seoul darker commuter lines would not pose a problem but in Tokyo they would overcrowd the map.

@DaeguDuke

Thank You

I agree with you, I would be happier to see the Airport on the left edge of the map.
The problem was fitting the long labeling of the airport stations and Incheon line 1 in the triangular space on the central-left edge of the map.

As it is a schematic map I don't see it as a major problem but I'll work on it.

UP with really good news but can't try for few days

Magnetic levitation train to operate in July

The first locally developed magnetic levitation train, also known as a maglev train, received technical certification from the government yesterday before it begins operation in July.

It is the world’s second commercialized maglev train, followed by the first one in Nagoya, Japan.

The maglev train was co-developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials and Hyundai Rotem, the local manufacturer of the bullet train KTX-Sancheon, as part of an inter-ministerial research and development project.

The two companies test drove the train for the first time yesterday at Incheon International Airport, where its course begins. When its operation begins, the train will carry passengers about six kilometers (3.7 miles) across Yeongjong Island from the airport to Yongyu Station, in the southwestern part of the island. The test drives will continue for two months.

“Railways are an eco-friendly means of transportation, and next-generation transportation such as maglev trains in particular are receiving more attention than ever in many countries with road-centered traffic systems,” said Im Yong-taek, president of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials at a press conference yesterday. “We will put forth effort to generate visible achievements as soon as possible by actively discussing with other countries that are highly interested in our trains for their cities.”

Han Kyu-hwan, vice president and CEO of Hyundai Rotem, said the company is hoping to build a train for Daejeon’s subway line No. 2, which is expected to open in 2020, and is also looking to export a train to St. Petersburg, Russia.

Maglev trains run above ground on elevated bridges with steel rail tracks that the cars are connected to by huge magnets attached beneath each train. The trains minimize long-term maintenance and personnel costs, which usually account for 80 percent of train-management costs, because they have no wheels, axles or bearings.

Umm.. Why? There's nothing there at Yeonyu.. Is it to be extended to operate into Incheon? Seems a waste of money to build a big expensive train just to service occasional day trippers to Mu ui do..

Lol, have you been to Daegu? Or Korea in general? Pretty buildings are kinda far from the agenda. It is relatively cheap, faster than road and will get traffic off the streets. It doesn't go through dt and so doesn't actually spoil any nice parts of the city (maybe the road into Susong lake) but it's built above what is essentially a motorway

Here are two videos I took recently of the Incheon Ecobee Urban Maglev system.

It is currently scheduled to open in September, 2014.

Don't know why the information about this kind of things is always confusing, but this is Korea!

Daegu

At least since spring 2014, the new monorail for Daegu Metro Line 3 is being tested on the line.

Recent shots.

Initial plans were to open the line in October but some informations in korean says, the line will be open in March or May, 2015.

Source:대구 도시철도 3호선

Incheon

Meanwhile in Incheon, since early 2014, the company already has the new trains for the new Incheon Subway Line 2... simply LRT trains with only 2 cars

Photos: http://dynamicktx.oa.to/

Yeongdeungpo Station in January:

The plan was to open the Line 2 this August and serve during the Asian Games in the city. Nothing until 2016.

Busan

Busan Metro has planned for this fall 2014 to start works on new Line 5 (tentative name) between Sasang and Hadan stations (for open in 2018). Plans for this line will be a kind of LRT like Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit.

... but the contract was cancelled with the construction company according Kugje Sinmun and other media.

Quote:
1st phase between Sasang and Hadan has 6.9 km and 6 stations planned.

Source: http://cafe.daum.net/kicha/ANo/22716

... 2nd phase (26km in total) will never continue to the failed New Busan International Airport in Gadeok island (but maybe to the Busan New Port?)

Thanks for all the updates Sr. Horn! They could probably call that new line in Busan an extension of the Busan-Gimhae LRT line, and they should definitely build it; the city's geography makes it great for rail transit. Any news on the Gyeonggi Train Express?
