BERLIN Talk Allgemein - Diverse News, Diskussionen, Visionen etc.

This is a thread about Berlin-related topics which don't fit anywhere else in the project topics. You can discuss about any issues concerning Berlin - statistics, random news, events, data, demography, new or lost jobs, economy, urban visions for the city etc...

But please: Always consider the Netiquette! Spam won't be tolerated & may lead to infractions and deletion of posts asap. Discuss in an objective & constructive way. This ain't a skybar!

Cordial thanks for the attention.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danke & viel Freude!

Why are Berlin's airports so small?

Schoenefeld is apparently even smaller than the dimunitive Tegel airport I used.

Compared to Frankfurt, Tegel is a small town airstrip.

The capital city of Germany, a huge city, has this size of an airport?

I was shocked.

Yeah but West Berlin was always in existence.

I'm not bashing Berlin at all.

I just find it odd.

Tegel was in the "west".

East of the ironcurtain was devastated no man's land. There was no need for a huge airport hub. Especially not in the most western capital of the soviet shithole.

Berlin has no significant metropolitan area due to the low population density in East Germany. Its airports only have to serve about 4-5 million people which is not much.

Patrick yes I am. I believe it is Schonefeld that they will expand into Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport and close Templehof and the awful Tegel airport.
That's what Berlin deserves.

Speaking of airports Heathrows new terminal is not bad at all. They have a few bugs to fix though.

BBI is useless

better build a 4th landebahn in Leipzig (3rd one already finished)
just 1h Autobahn from Berlin, one could build a Transrapid line next to it and it would still be cheaper and more effective then BBI since Leipzig is a Boomtown!
