Kauffman Stadium had an interesting design to begin with and they did a good job at renovating it. Still keeps the classic look with modern commodities. Well done.

The best part about this stadium is that it was the only MLB only stadium built in the 70's era when everybody else was building round multi purpose stadiums that also hosted the NFL like Vetrans, 3 rivers, Busch, cincy, ect.

Nice renovation, although they had to cut out some portions of the seating area to create the new entrances and press box/suites and had to take down one of the circular ramps.

You lot seem to do a very good job of renovating your baseball stadiums.
This and Dodger Stadium have undergone very nice modernisations. |

Aw, I liked all of the grass and fountains that used to be in the outfield. Very calming.

Then, in '95, The K switched over to grass. I went to my first game on the real stuff and MAN, I was absolutely blown away! Almost night and day--couldn't believe I EVER liked that old carpet! |

Actually, that small photo of Kauffman Stadium isn't from the '80s, but rather from the year it opened in 1973. You can tell because that was the only year the dimensions on the outfield walls were painted in the big orange numerals soon to be replaced by smaller white ones. That photo may even be from Opening Night in '73 because the grass hadn't been sodded beyond the left center field wall and the water fountains were not operational until later that summer. And yes, the Astroturf was ugly, even from the get-go.
As for the compliment from merry 'ol England: cheers, you lot! And as I like to say, we don't need no stinking new stadium! |

Not if they don't clean that fountain water more often. That stuff tends to stink on hot, humid days--when they turn it off it kinda stagnates.

The renovations are key for the franchise's stability, but I liked the lack of seats in the outfield. It made the stadium unique and the fountains looked great. Now they're kind of hidden.

I agree, it's kinda weird seeing the outfield with seats at Kauffman and then fountains do seem a bit more hidden. Still I am glad they didn't get rid of them completely as they are one of the more unique features behind Wrigleys ivy or Fenways monster.Hope the Royals find themselves much improved in 09.

I really like what they've done here. Its great. I love how they integrated the seats into the outfield without making them the main focal point.
