Yes, that's true, but I don't think people would pronounce "y" as [i] or [ü] in names like Smolyan, Kyustendil, Panagyurishte, Oryakhovo, Gorna Oryakhovitsa, Yambol, Aytos, Byala, or Devnya. I don't know, maybe there are other names where it's not so clear. Btw, Grad Sofiya.

German in Holland..... and French only in Morocco!!!

To avoid misunderstandings they put this sign in Lelystad Haven, near the port area much frequented by German tourists who have or rent a boat there:

Parking only for (resident) license holders!

Antoher strange thing is that Morocco makes it difficult for its own residents: this parking place reserved for vehicles transporting cash to banks etc. is only marked in French and not in Arabic.... as if all drivers were university-level linguists! Normally such information should be in the national languages, i.e. Arabic and Tamazight besides of French so that all can read it!
I found it on a thread by forumer Teystoon in the Urban Showcase dedicated to Fez.

Except 2 times parking for disabled persons. The Dutch love "except" subsigns.

Some monolingual Scottish Gaelic signs in the far north of the Western Isles. (English for Port Nis is Port of Ness and Steornabhagh is Stornoway)

Are you suggesting that Arab governments don't respect their citizens? How absurd

Quite unusual, although some people write capital "I" with a dot.
