an old news about the re-construction of the airport, taken from:
http://www.visitpuertoprincesa.com/i...273&Itemid=203 Phase 1 of Puerto Princesa airport terminal to be inaugurated on Sept. 5 PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Sept. 4 (PNA) -- The Php28-million newly built Puerto Princesa’s airport terminal, Phase 1 will be inaugurated on September 5. Eduardo Lansang, Air Transportation Office-Puerto Princesa manager, said Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza is expected to attend and will be joined by Palawan Gov. Joel T. Reyes, Rep. Abraham Khalil Mitra, Mayor Edward Hagedorn, city and provincial government officials. He said airport terminal was opened early this week, serving as temporary check-in and pre-departure for airlines’ passengers. Lansang said the completion of the terminal has brought convenience and relief to the passengers of the airport. The terminal was previously criticized because of congestion and intense heat which have resulted in one death last summer apparently caused by heat stroke. Conditions have improved at the airport following Mitra and Hagedorn’s representation with national government agencies for immediate intervention to ensure continued passenger comfort and convenience by providing a better airconditioning system. Construction of terminal building’s old section and Phase 2's rehabilitation and upgrading project will also start. The national government allocated almost P150 million for the upgrading of the airport terminal and for the purchase of baggage conveyors, air-conditioning units and other equipment and materials inside the airport. The construction works include the five-meter expansion of the frontage, construction of VIP room, the construction of the lengthy ceiling, and runway expansion from 45 meters to 60 meters, among others. The project is among the airport projects lined up for rehabilitation and upgrading. It will complement the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which aims to further strengthen the country's air, sea and land transportation network. Puerto Princesa airport has been lined up for an upgrade since 1998 and was even included in the 2006 State-of-the- Nation-Address (SONA) of President Arroyo for its conversion into an international airport. The expansion of the city’s airport will be completed in 2010. The Php3.2-billion project cost will be funded out of royalties from the Malampaya Gas Reservoir.(PNA) |

Not bad, it's small but it looks clean and comfy inside. I like the tarmac view of the terminal building. I hope they would also replace the benches to a more modern looking ones.
I guess you can't really appreciate the facade area because it's still being remodelled. Someone should take a picture of the check in counter area, especially once it is completely finished. |
