People who have been to these department stores in the US will know what I am talking about. Never been to u Parkson at 1 utama but I bet it's even classier than that. |

Pavilion KL to have retail sales of RM1.56b in 2008
By Ashwin Raman Malton Bhd subsidiary, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd (KLP), expects total annual retail sales from the outlets at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping complex to reach RM1.56 billion in 2008. KLP is the development manager of Pavilion KL on behalf of a Urusharta Cemerlang Sdn Bhd. Pavilion KL is KLP's first venture in the development and management of prime urban project. Kuwait Finance House, through BAITAK Asian Real Estate Fund (BAITAK AREF) has invested in the Pavilion KL project by way of a shareholder financing facility representing a 49% stake. KLP chief executive officer, Brisco Fan, said the shopping complex, which will open in the third quarter of 2007, would provide a good platform for local and international retailers. He said the company had planned for marketing packages and events to achieve the target of RM1.56 billion in retail sales. Fan said KLP intended to showcase at least 20% of new retail brands that were now unavailable in Malaysia to mould Pavilion KL as a unique shopping destination in Asia. He said KLP was expecting up to 25% of its sales to come from tourists as shopping was one of the main drivers for tourism in Malaysia. Fan said 45% of the space at Pavilion KL had been leased to international and local retailers and was well on its way to achieving its target of bringing in 20% of new retail brands. “We believe we have the expertise, right management and passion to understand the objectives and deliver this project,” Fan told reporters at a briefing on the project in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. He said Pavilion KL, which costs RM1.3 billion and has a gross development value of RM3 billion, would consist of a seven-storey shopping centre, two blocks of luxury residential towers, a 19-storey office tower and a proposed boutique hotel. Fan said the two-blocks of residential towers, which would house 368 luxurious contemporary units, was scheduled to be completed in 2008.

$1.3 billion mall?
If the number is correct and not a typo, the $ 1.3 billion mall should be a spectacular mall I would expect.
Don't want to be dissappointed again. |

Known as the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the mixed development sits on a 5ha leasehold land, close to Menara Standard Chartered and Wisma Cosway on Jalan Raja Chulan. The project features a seven-storey shopping centre, a 19-storey office tower, an 180-room boutique hotel and two blocks of residential towers. The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has a gross built-up area of 3.7 million sq ft. Construction of the property started in 2004, with the bulk of it due for completion in 2008. "The development is sitting on the last piece of prime real estate in Bukit Bintang, the heart of the Golden Triangle," KLPSB chief executive Brisco Fan told a media briefing on the project in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Fan, however, declined to specify the rental rates and prices of the properties. Some 45 per cent or 616,000 sq ft of the shopping mall's 1.37 million sq ft of net lettable retail area have been leased out to date. The complex has some 450 retail lots. Fan claimed that up to 20 per cent of its tenants would feature new brands not found in Malaysia yet. On the two residential towers with 368 units of premium homes, he said each unit will have built-ups of between 1,200 and 4,000 sq ft. The floor areas and number of commercial units in the 19-storey office tower are still being finalised.
